This week, Blizzard Entertainment held a roughly two-hour BlizzCon Opening Ceremony livestream this week, showing off upcoming content coming out throughout the rest of 2026 and beyond for its slate of video games. In a jam-packed stream, we got major reveals and game announcements for franchises like World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, and more.
Here are all the biggest news and announcements you missed from September 2026’s BlizzCon Opening Ceremony:
Heroes of the Storm is getting a new hero after six years
Heroes of the Storm enjoyers, rejoice! The MOBA is finally getting new content with the release of its first new hero in six years, Xal'atath. The World of Warcraft baddie hits Heroes of the Storm on 28 September, 2026, with at least one more playable hero also in the works.
Diablo Netflix project
Netflix is officially making a Diablo animated TV series. Further adaptations of other Blizzard properties, like Overwatch and World of Warcraft, were also teased.
StarCraft is launching in 2030
A revival of the StarCraft franchise, aptly entitled “StarCraft”, is launching in 2030. The game is described as a story-driven open world shooter aimed at a release on Xbox consoles. The game was announced with a flashy cinematic trailer.
New Overwatch support hero, Doctrine
Overwatch has revealed Hero 54, a vampiric Support hero named Doctrine. Additionally, artwork for its next Omnic Support hero was also revealed–but the hero was not named. Sombra and Roadhog are also getting reworks in the Doctrine-led Season 5, with the former getting turned into a Support hero.
Deckard Cain in Diablo IV, new playable class The Amazon announced
The Diablo franchise had a big BlizzCon this weekend. Diablo IV is not only coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, but its next season, Season of Hell’s Legacy, features the return of longtime friend of the franchise, Deckard Cain. Players will also be able to inherit the powers of the Prime Evils, including Mephisto.
Additionally, a new class from the Vessel of Hatred expansion, the Amazon, is also coming to the new game with a new weapon type: the Javelin.
Diablo V is launching in 2029
That’s right, the Diablo franchise is officially getting an all-new sequel: Diablo V. This time around, Sanctuary has collapsed amid Diablo’s return, which players haven’t had to deal with just yet in Diablo IV.
Hearthstone new class and expansion
Hearthstone is officially getting a new Monk class, along with an expansion called Reign of the Black Empire. Additionally, Battlegrounds is getting a new Minion type called Aberration, a 2V2 mode called Tavern Brawl is in the works, and an overhauled journal has also been announced.
Most enticingly, a new Monk class is coming in 2027.
Warcraft 3 Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom campaign
Warcraft 3 Reforged is getting a brand-new campaign, and it’s out today. This two-part campaign will take players into the Undercity, reintroducing them to the Scarlet Crusade and key characters like Sylvanas in a roughly 30-hour story. The campaign's story will also lead into World of Warcraft: Forever.
Additionally, Warcraft 3: Reforged itself is getting a free update to improve the map-making world editor, and improve graphical fidelity with a new graphics mode.
World of Warcraft Forever, the “Classic Plus” fans wanted, is happening
Blizzard Entertainment has officially confirmed World of Warcraft “Classic Plus”, a version of World of Warcraft that adds new content on top of its Classic counterpart, rather than continue to remake content from the original MMO.

World of Warcraft: Midnight–Eclipse
World of Warcraft: Midnight continues onward, with the Worldsoul Saga’s big bad (and new Heroes of the Storm character) Xal’atath inching closer to her ultimate goal. The expansion received a new trailer for its story content.
World of Warcraft: The Last Titan teased
World of Warcraft’s next major expansion, The Last Titan, has been teased, culminating the Worldsoul Saga. The Last Titan is teased as an epic expansion that will put the “war back in Warcraft.” The expansion launches in 2027.
