Heroes of the Storm is getting a new hero in the big 2026.
Blizzard Entertainment made a shocking announcement at this year’s BlizzCon Opening Ceremony: Heroes of the Storm is finally getting more new playable heroes, following a long six-year gap since its last-released hero. The new hero comes from World of Warcraft: Xal'atath.

Is Heroes of the Storm getting revived?
Blizzard Entertainment’s president Johanna Faries brought an announcement to BlizzCon 2026 that she was personally excited to reveal: Heroes of the Storm is officially getting new content at long last. Heroes of the Storm is getting a brand-new playable character named Xal'atath, marking the first time the game has received a new character since Warcraft’s Hogger was released in December 2020.
Xal’atath heralds from the realm of World of Warcraft, where she currently serves as the game’s big bad. Her arrival might not be the massive revival or remake many might have hoped for, but it’s certainly the most content the MOBA has received in a good while.
Xal’atath will launch in Heroes of the Storm on 28 September, 2026. Blizzard also confirmed that at least one additional new hero for the game is also in the works.
