Auroch Digital lays off 25% of staff after Boltgun II launch, ahead of Warhammer Survivors

Auroch Digital lays off around 25% of its staff amid “market conditions”.

Two weeks after the launch of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II and weeks before the release of Warhammer Survivors, developer Auroch Digital has been hit by major layoffs.

The studio cites “the same market conditions” affecting other developers as the catalyst for the cuts, which reportedly impact around a quarter of its workforce.

Despite the significant reduction in staff, Auroch Digital has promised continued post-launch support for Warhammer Survivors and the recently-released Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II.

The studio's full statement (as shared by Gematsu) reads as follows:

First, to our staff: we are immensely proud of everything you have achieved, and are deeply sorry for the position we are now in. We know this will be an incredibly challenging and uncertain time for everyone at the studio. Our priority is supporting everyone through the consultation process with as much care and respect as we can.

We will work hard to lessen the impact of these changes.

To partners and friends in the industry: If you are hiring, please consider finding a place for our staff in your studio. They have worked on everything from indie shooters to AAA [co-development], and their talent and breadth are second-to-none. We would be hugely grateful for any opportunities or support you can offer them.

To our players, we want you to know development and post-launch support for Warhammer Survivors and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II will continue. Our path forward will always include making games with the same passion, care, and quality you’ve come to expect from us. While our immediate focus is supporting our colleagues through this process, you should expect nothing less from us in the future.

On behalf of everyone at Auroch Digital, thank you.

Auroch Digital becomes the latest studio hit by layoffs

In another round of industry layoffs, Auroch Digital has reportedly cut around 25% of its workforce.

The studio is the latest developer to be affected by what it describes as “market conditions”, continuing a trend seen across the industry, including at Epic Games, Electronic Arts, and Xbox, as well as Ghost of Tsushima developer Sucker Punch just yesterday.

Auroch Digital is most recognisable for developing the first-person shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun (2023) and its sequel, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II, which launched just two weeks ago.

The studio is also preparing to launch Warhammer Survivors, a dark bullet-heaven game set in the Warhammer universe, next month. However, it will now have to handle the launch and subsequent post-launch updates with a significantly smaller team.
