T1, Fnatic, and EDward Gaming are tearing up the 2022 Spring Splits

2022 has not disappointed when it comes to competitive League of Legends.

The 2022 League of Legends competitive season has only just begun and after a few weeks, we're already seeing quite a few teams stamp their mark onto their respective regions. Currently, the LPL, LCK, and the LEC are in full swing for their spring splits while the LCS is going through its Lock-In tournament. While we did predict which teams to look out for this season, we did not expect it to end up like this.

Amongst all three regional leagues happening at the moment, only two teams from each region are currently undefeated and sitting pretty at the top of the leaderboard. While the spring split is a marathon and not a sprint, some of these teams have already set a high standard on what it takes to be the best in the region.

LPL

Can EDG and LNG stay at the top for the whole of the Spring Split?

After two weeks worth of games, we see EDward Gaming and LNG Esports occupying the top spots with both teams currently at 4-0. Both teams have dropped only a single match in all four of their games, winning three with a clean 2-0 sweep. While both teams have yet to face one another or even other top teams as of yet, it does put them in a prime position heading into the two-week Lunar New Year break.

EDG has managed to carry over their form from last season with the world champions dropping one game in their 2-1 win over Ultra Prime while they went undefeated in their other three games. Both Lee "Scout" Ye-chan and Park "Viper" Do-hyeon have been instrumental in EDG's recent successes as they have put the team on their back on multiple occasions to secure key victories. With the way things are going, EDG is on-course to finishing top of the group stage and into the next round.

As for LNG, they have also been able to replicate EDG's performances with their undefeated streak going on. They have also gone through their rebuild, bringing in the likes of TaeSang "Doinb" Kim from FunPlus Phoenix. The team has gone from strength to strength this season, dropping only one match in their 2-1 victory over Rare Atom while also winning their three other series in clean sweeps. However, it's Lee "Tarzan" Seung-yong who has been stealing the show with his prowess in the jungle, which has earned him four group stage MVP titles.

LCK

T1 and Gen.G look strong, but for how long?

With the LPL looking to be back to their dominant selves once more, it's up to the LCK to now prove that their dominance was no fluke. Unfortunately, the likes of DWG.KIA has not been performing at their best as of late, winning and losing two games each. They're currently in the middle of the pack and will need to put up greater numbers if they want to make it to the Mid-Season Invitational later this year. However, it has been T1 and Gen.G Esports who have been influential in their past four games.

For the most part, T1's lineup has been unchanged aside from losing Kim "Canna" Chang-dong and promoting Choi "Zeus" Woo-je to the main team. Four of the five members are part of the same T1 squad that finished in the semifinals at Worlds last year, which now puts them in a prime position to reclaim their throne in the LCK. Besides dropping one match in their 2-1 win against Brion Esports, T1 took clean sweeps in three other games. Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyeong has been the team's top performer so far, putting in big plays in all four of their previous games.

Gen.G is the only other team that is currently undefeated in the LCK Spring Split, defeating the likes of DRX, DWG, and Hanwha Life Esports in recent weeks. After going through its rebuilding phase, the team's current performances put them miles ahead of the competition with only T1 ahead of them. While they did one map against Hanwha Life and DWG, they have been able to keep their composure to secure key wins. Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon was also able to exact revenge on his previous team while also putting Gen.G on his back to carry them over the finish line.

LEC

Rogue and Fnatic are taking all the odds stacked against them.

While both the LPL and the LCK are the most dominant forces in competitive League of Legends, the LEC is known for its unpredictability as well as star power in the western world. The majority of the teams had to undergo roster changes with many big names making moves around the region. Fnatic was one such team, making three changes to their top and middle lane as well as the jungler positions. Rogue is another team that made some changes to their lineup, particularly in the jungle and AD carry spots. What both these teams have in common is that they're currently 5-0 in the LEC Spring Split, going undefeated from the get-go.

Fnatic was able to make the most of their opportunities, taking out superstar squads like newcomers Team BDS as well as Team Vitality. Fnatic took key 1-0 wins against both teams as well as taking out SK Gaming, Misfits Gaming, and Astralis. The LEC's most prolific team looked to be heading back to their best with their recent performances, giving fans hope that they have overcome their disappointing Worlds 2021 showing. The additions of Martin "Wunder" Nordahl Hansen, Iván "Razork" Martín Díaz, and Marek "Humanoid" Brázda have proven essential but it's Zdravets "Hylissang" Iliev Galabov who has turned up, claiming three group stage MVP titles so far.

Rogue has also looked strong during the opening stages of the LEC Spring Split. They also won all five of their games, taking out similar opponents like BDS, Astralis, SK, and Misfits but their biggest win to date came against the LEC's most improved team, MAD Lions. Having lost their mid-laner and AD carry in the same window, the team were no match for Rogue who is now tied with Fnatic for first place. Andrei "Odoamne" Pascu has been one of their standout stars with two group stage MVP titles to show for it.

More to come...

With this week of games being the last for the next two weeks in the LPL Spring Split, LNG will hope to increase their lead in the group stages with a key match against FunPlus Phoenix still to come tomorrow. With EDG not playing their fifth game until after the Lunar New Year break, LNG can head into the new year with great confidence if they take out FunPlus.

For the LCK, they will have one more week of games starting tomorrow until Sunday, January 30 with Gen.G having two fairly easy matches against both Freecs and KT Rolster. T1, on the other hand, will have a tougher line-up with Nongshim RedForce and DWG.KIA standing in their way before their 10-day break. T1 will be looking to keep up with Gen.G so this week will prove crucial to their hopes of attending MSI 2022.

Fnatic and Rogue will go head-to-head this Saturday, January 29 to determine who will be the top dog in the LEC. However, they will have to keep a lookout behind them as the likes of G2 Esports and MAD Lions are also close on their heels if either of them were to slip up.
