Riot Games is ending development on 2XKO.
Riot Games has officially announced that it’s halting development on 2XKO at the end of 2026. The developer plans to keep new updates coming to the game this year, including two more playable champions in Lux and Samira, and issue refunds for all in-game purchases made on or before 20 August.
While servers will remain online beyond 2026, future content updates for the game will cease after December 2026.

Release Date: 20 January, 2026
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Developer: Riot Games
Why is 2XKO ending development?
Riot Games’ League of Legends fighting game 2XKO is officially ending development. In a statement on Riot’s official website, the developer noted that “while a lot of you jumped in to try the game and there’s an incredible community that plays every day, we haven’t seen enough players stick with the game to get to a path toward sustainability.”
Other aspects of the game’s performance were evaluated–ranging from revenue and retention to new players gained and engagement–throughout 2026. Riot noted that it saw “no meaningful, sustained change in 2XKO‘s trajectory” and surmised that “it would be impossible for us to continue actively developing the game as we are today.”
The developer looked at other ways of continuing development of the game, including reducing the team’s size or changing the game’s business model, but ultimately decided that “finishing the rest of our work-in-progress content and sunsetting active development was the best route forward for players and Rioters.”
Hence, live service support for the game is coming to an end.
2XKO champion unlocks and player refunds explained

Servers will remain on for the game beyond 2026, and the game will continue to be playable on all platforms–so existing fans of 2XKO can rest assured that the game isn’t going anywhere in its current form.
Additionally, Riot is issuing a couple more updates through the rest of 2026, adding new contents, improved features, a final bug fix in December, and two new playable fighters in Lux and Samira. Offline play will also be unaffected by the game’s end of development.
On the bright side, Riot Games is unlocking all of 2XKO’s playable champions for all to access. The developer is also bundling together “most cosmetic items” and refunding all in-game purchases on or before 20 August, 2026. Avatar and player profile items will also be unlockable for Credits, with these changes taking place in patch 1.3.1 dropping in September.
Riot stated that, despite ending support of 2XKO, it intends to “do right by the players who have invested in us so far and want to continue playing 2XKO, as well as the Rioters who have poured everything into delivering on this dream."
2XKO 2026 content updates explained

Riot Games has also outlined a list of future updates coming to 2XKO, including bug fixes, balance changes, and all-new content. Starting from today (21 August GMT+8), the developer is disabling KO Points purchases and refunding all purchases made prior to today. Remaining KO Points can be spent in the rotating store until patch 1.3.1 launches.
Patch 1.3.1 will launch on 8 September, adding a new playable champion: Lux, the Lady of Luminosity. A bundle of all 2XKO cosmetics will be available in this update for US$39.99, including skins, skin chromas, and taunts for every champion up to and including Lux, plus all currently-released finishers.
Many more items will be available for purchase using Credits, including Avatar items, select base champion chromas, stages, and player profile items. A couple more systems are being removed in this patch, including ranked lobbies, battle passes, seasons, Champion Tokens, and events.
In this patch, all champions will also be unlocked for players, with Fuses unlocked via tutorials. A voice chat and large map are coming to private lobbies. In October, Patch 1.3.3 will add 2XKO’s final champion, Samira, the Desert Rose. The 2XKO Ultimate Bundle will be automatically updated with more cosmetics in this update.
In December, one final optional patch (Patch 1.3.5) is being planned focusing on remaining bug fixes, as Riot’s final sweep of the game before sunsetting its development. After that, the game will remain online.
What is happening to 2XKO esports?
The 2XKO Competitive Series will continue unchanged throughout 2026, and Riot plans to continue supporting players with prizes for all Major and Challenger events. The final Competitive Series event will kick off in November. After that, 2XKO events can continue running using official Community Competition Guidelines, online or offline.
