Caps becomes first Western player inducted into League of Legends Hall of Legends

Europe's most decorated player joins Faker and Uzi after a career that changed what the West could achieve internationally.

Rasmus “Caps” Winther has spent the better part of a decade pushing the ceiling for European League of Legends (LoL), and he is now the first player from the West to enter its Hall of Legends.

Riot Games announced on 16 August that the G2 Esports mid laner will become the third inductee into the League of Legends Hall of Legends, joining Lee “Faker” Sanghyeok, who became its inaugural member in 2024, and Zi-Hao “Uzi” Jian, who followed in 2025. Caps is also the first player from the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) to receive the honour.

The announcement arrived alongside a video introducing Caps as the newest member of the Hall of Legends and looking back at the career that took him from one of Europe's brightest young talents to its most decorated player.

Riot described Caps as "a beacon of hope whose legacy reshaped what the West believed was possible on the global stage", pointing to the skill, creativity and individuality that have defined his career.

"Caps always felt like the player you could never fully prepare for," Chris Greeley, Global Head of LoL Esports, said. "He has that rare 'it' factor, the ability to rise in the biggest moments through his playmaking, leadership, and calming presence under pressure."

Greeley added that Caps has inspired an entire generation of Western players and earned respect around the world, calling him "one of the greatest League of Legends players of all time."

What are Caps' achievements in League of Legends esports?

Caps began competing professionally in 2015 and won his first domestic championship with Dark Passage in Turkey in 2016. His breakthrough came with Fnatic, where he won back-to-back EU LoL Championship Series (LCS) titles in 2018 and reached the Worlds 2018 Grand Final.

His move to G2 Esports ahead of 2019 kicked off the defining stretch of his career. G2 won LEC Spring, the Mid Season Invitational (MSI) 2019 where he was also named MVP, and LEC Summer, keeping their Golden Road alive all the way to the Worlds Grand Final.

Caps was named MVP at MSI 2019, the year G2 almost completed the Golden Road.

G2 remains the only team to reach the final series of the season with the Golden Road still intact, putting them one best-of-five away from winning every major title available that year. FunPlus Phoenix ultimately stopped the historic run with a 3-0 victory in Paris.

Caps has remained at the heart of G2 through multiple rosters since then, continuing to pile up LEC championships while becoming the most decorated player in European League history. He now holds 18 domestic titles, including 17 EU LCS/LEC championships won between Fnatic and G2, alongside his earlier TCL title.

He has also become the first player in LEC history to cross both 400 wins and 2,500 kills. Nearly eight years after joining G2, Caps remains the team's mid laner and is contracted through November 2027.

What are Caps' signature League of Legends champions?

Caps earned the "Baby Faker" nickname early in his career, but his huge champion pool and willingness to challenge the established meta soon gave him an identity of his own.

Sylas became one of his most recognisable international picks, though Caps' flexibility was central to the way G2 approached the game at its 2019 peak. Rather than simply finding unusual mid picks, Caps and G2 made champions difficult to place in draft, moving them between roles and forcing opponents to prepare for possibilities rarely seen in conventional pro play.

Pyke was one of the clearest examples of this, with G2 successfully flexing the champion across multiple roles, including Caps taking it mid. That unpredictability became a defining part of a team that showed just how far aggressive drafting, individual comfort picks and role flexibility could be pushed at the highest level.

Which champion is getting Caps' Hall of Legends skin?

Caps' induction will come with a dedicated in-game event pass following moments from his career, along with a collection of Hall of Legends cosmetics. Riot has not officially revealed the complete lineup yet, but Hall of Legends assets added to the League PBE ahead of the announcement revealed Tristana as the champion receiving Caps' Immortalized Legend skin. The same PBE assets also gave away Caps as the likely 2026 inductee before Riot made it official.

More details on his skins, bundles, pass rewards and pricing are expected before the in-game celebration begins.

When does the Caps Hall of Legends event begin?

Caps will receive his official Hall of Legends trophy during a ceremony in Berlin, Germany, on 18 August, with his dedicated Hall of Legends website opening on 24 August.

The in-game event begins on 10 September, bringing Caps' career pass and cosmetic collection to League of Legends. Riot has also scheduled a full Hall of Legends film about his career for the same day.

Here are the dates to remember:

  • 18 August: Caps' Hall of Legends Trophy Ceremony in Berlin
  • 24 August: Caps' dedicated Hall of Legends website opens
  • 10 September: Caps' Hall of Legends in-game event begins
  • 10 September: Caps' Hall of Legends film releases

Introduced in 2024, the Hall of Legends honours pro players for their achievements and impact on competitive League of Legends. Candidates must have competed at Tier 1 level for at least five cumulative years, with around 20 eligible players nominated before an independent panel of 50 esports veterans votes on the inductee.

The panel considers factors including international appearances, regional and international titles, role-specific statistics and overall contributions to the esport. Inductees receive an official trophy and their own in-game event, while the player and their current and former teams receive a portion of proceeds from Hall of Legends passes and bundles.
