In the German-based Giga Liga final tournament, the semi-final matches were played on May 30th/31st, and we are now set up for a fantastic final between two legends.
After a heated period of group play, only eight players remained standing to compete for the fabulous prizes offered by the latest season of the Giga Liga tournament in Germany, with an astounding 2000 euros going to first place. The winner would be decided by a three-round, one bracket tournament.
SoL.ScHnibL0r | < | razZ.Cope | 0-2 |
iV.GoOdy | < | FiSheYe[pG] | 0-2 |
ash.kar | < | ToT)Mondragon( | 0-2 |
Methos[pG] | > | ToT)heXer( | 2-0 |
This left us with two great semi final matches: the always impressive FiSheYe[pG] would square off against the solid razZ.Cope, while ToT)Mondragon( and Methos[pG] would face each other in a zerg-versus-zerg war. Fisheye and mondragon were clearly the favorites to win their matches...
...and they did not disappoint:
FiSheYe[pG] | > | razZ.Cope | @Namja Iyagi |
FiSheYe[pG] | > | razZ.Cope | @Blade Storm |
ToT)Mondragon( | > | Methos[pG] | @Lost Temple |
Mondragon and Fisheye - together again
So we are down to the final two survivors in the tournament, mondragon and fisheye. This is certainly not the first time they have met each other in important events.
A short list of recent mondragon vs fisheye affairs:
Event | Winner | |
Giga Liga 2004 Semi-Finals | Mondragon
WCG Germany 2004 Finals | Mondragon
ECG Germany 2005 | Mondragon
Giga Liga 2005 Finals | ?*
*to be played on June 4th |
Clearly, Mondragon has Fisheye's number. Fisheye, though, has been nothing less than dominant so far in the Giga Liga, and will certainly bring his best. Can Fisheye break away from his history against Mondragon, or will the zerg master again defeat him and win another Giga Liga title? Only time will tell.
