Get to know the Crew: Lord of Chaos

GosuGamers interviewed their very own Lord of Chaos. Read about his Starcraft carreer and his real life activities inside.

GosuGamers.net: I think most readers know you already, but can you please introduce you?
Lord of Chaos: Okay, I'm Mattias Ylander, from Sweden and I'm 21 years old. Studying medicine at university in Gothenburg and "working" on GosuGamers as a forum moderator since like 2004 or 2005

GG: I will go with Mattias then, if that is okay for you. So you have been around GosuGamers quite long, and you were one of the cool guys already when I joined. How did you do that. Abusing your modrights, to edit posts saying "LoC you rock" or do they really love you?

LoC: Well, generally I edit other posts in the crew forum, making their opinions seem less smart and my opinions smarter. Doing that for a few years, people realised they better listen to me. Somewhere down the line someone removed the possibility for moderators to log in to other GG.net member's accounts. Hmm... Nah, really, just being around a long time and people get used to you, and meeting up with other crew people at DH and other events help creating a good family feel, which means you feel more relaxed and able to argue your point more easily.

GG: What? Looks like someone does not want you to have more fun than he has. What a shame! Did you every think of moving sections to let's say writing news, or care about the bet-system? Why did you chose the moderator spot at first, and what keeps you motivated?

LoC: I've always been a forum animal, even before playing starcraft and finding GG.net. I basicly learned reading/writing English well on different forums when I was a kid. I was a news editor a while though. Was kind of tired of moderation, so I first quit GG.net for a while, rejoined after meeting everyone at DH again and worked a few months as an editor for the SC section. Then returned to moderation again, where I belong :P

GG: As you already pointed out, Dreamhack with other people from the GosuCrew rocks. I like the atmosphere there, and also how the pros behave. What do you like most there, and why are the StarCraft progamers I met so cool, although I am just a DotA guy?

LoC: You didn't meet any SC progamers, just high level amateurs. SC pros live in Korea. But the SC community in Sweden is kind of small, and DH is sort of the yearly meet up. Everyone knows everyone, at least by reputation and that makes for a good relaxed atmosphere. Oh, of course meeting all the people from GG.net and for last year playing StarCraft II is what I like most about DH.

GG: What about your own SC-career? What race do you prefer, and did you win anything already? Is StarCraft a game to relax for you or something that keeps you in competition?

LoC: I play Zerg, and I'm around B- skill perhaps. Never took ICCup seriously enough to amass a decent rank though. I play SC for competition generally, I relax with other games. Playing SC when I'm tired or a little off is often boring since I generally play a lot worse then, and I hate that :P
I haven't won anything at all, except cw matches which is enough for me. Lately I've been playing less and less due to time restraints (studies, mainly).

GG: And with "other games" you mean playing DotA of course. Are you as skilled as Raistlin in there? Who is only able to play one hero at all. Seriously: Did you ever tried the other games we cover (Wc3 and/or DotA)?

LoC: wc3, DotA and wow are all against my StarCraft religion. You see, these games bled out the Sc community worse than any other games ever have. In my worship of the overmind I cannot accept these games. Of course, as any good religious acolyte I break my religion's rules a little now and then to have something to confess to the Overmind. Usually at LANs. And I suck at both wc3 and DotA. Usually for relaxing at the computer I play some RPGs or similar. Lately it was vampire bloodlines.

GG: Okay enough nerd-talk. Let's come to your private side. I heard you are into martial arts. A contrast to sitting in front of a computer, or the dream to get a girl with protecting her from evil ? =)

LoC: Yeah, I currently do Aikido and Brazilian Jujutsu. Been practising aikido since I was 16, and just started up BJJ this summer (wanted to get back to my judo roots, which I did as a kid). It's good exercise and extremely fun. Not really doing it to be able to defend myself or anyone else really, but it's a nice side effect. I'm probably a bigger martial arts geek than computer geek

GG: I always love watching Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) videos. When will we see yours?

LoC: Don't have the time to get serious about competition, otherwise I'd probably try to start competing in BJJ. Don't think I would compete in MMA, since I really prefer grappling before punching/kicking.
Though that might just be because I never tried it :P

GG: You recently were in Europe to do a road trip, how was it?

LoC: It was a real experience. We went through the Balkans, through Turkey and in to Georgia. We tried to get in to Azzerbajjan but they required preplanned visa and stuff, so we couldn't reach the Caspian sea like we intended, but it owned. Met a lot of cool people and saw a lot of amazing things. Everything from bombed and shot up houses in Osiek to the slums in Tirana to an amazing hostel in Istanbul to the most friendly people I ever met in Georgia

GG: What was the best station or moment at that trip? Like maybe a really nice view or an interesting personality

LoC: I really really liked Istanbul.
A lot of reasons why. We were there with some cool Irish guys, we were at an amazing hostel with lots of people with lots of new stories about where they had travelled, plus a Turkish bath after several days of sweat and no showers and sleeping at stations and in buses several nights. So it was sort of the peak of the journey for me. I really liked that city

GG: Okay, thank you Mattias for answering all the questions, and lighten up the community. Do you have any final words you want to speak out loud?

LoC: Hmmm.. since I'm a mod I have to: "Think before you post!"
The rest who deserve shout outs know who you are, too many to mention here :)
