Their success meant the elimination of the only Korean in Surrender and Ukrainian powerhouse Kolento.

DreamHack champion Stanislav Cifka might not be attending the Blizzcon regional qualifiers but he’s at least drilling through StarLadder’s Season 1. The Czech opened Group B of the tournament against Aleksandr “Kolento” Malsh in what was yet another chapter of their rivalry. The competitive history between these two players dates back to CN vs EU Season 2 and has spanned over other major tournaments like DreamHack Summer, StarLadder Kick-Off Season and WCA Europe. In their five total encounters, Kolento had their upper hand by one.

On Friday, StanCifka equalized the score. Letting Kolento only take the first game, Cifka’s line-up of Druid, Warlock and Warrior got him one step closer to moving onwards. The winners’ match of the group paired him with another marquee European, Nihilum’s Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk. After what was a much tougher series for Cifka, the Luminosity player advanced with 3-2, making it to the second group stage of the tournament.

It was ThijsNL who followed him promptly. The Dutchman had to play Kolento in the decider match and scored a thundering 3-0 over the group’s favorite, knocking him down to the last chance bracket, where all previously eliminated players will compete for spots in the LAN finals.

Groups C and D will be played this Monday and Tuesday, featuring the talents of Firebat, Dog, Orange, Forsen and more.
