The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time remake announced for Nintendo Switch 2, launching in 2026

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is officially getting a full-fledged remake.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s long-awaited remake has finally been announced, following months of leaks and speculation. Ocarina of Time is one of the most iconic games of all time, and certainly one of the most beloved games in the larger Zelda franchise, making this announcement rather exciting. The game is set to launch sometime this year.

When is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time coming out?

The rumours were true: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is officially getting an all-new remake on the Nintendo Switch 2. The seminal 3D open-world Zelda game will arrive on the console just in time for Link’s live-action debut on the big screen, as the Zelda movie adaptation hits theatres next year.

While the trailer didn’t have much more to show viewers besides a release window of 2026 and some beautiful tapestries showcasing old Hyrule imagery, we did get a glimpse of a resting Link. He appears dressed in garb from the original Ocarina of Time, and notably is not rendered in the painterly-like Breath of the Wild artstyle.

Nintendo is veering closer to the original game’s realistic artstyle, so it seems. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a 1998 video game that follows Link in the realm of Hyrule. He embarks on a quest to stop the evil Gerudo king Ganondorf from travelling through time, and uses the titular Ocarina of Time to play songs and thus progress through dungeons and the overworld.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches sometime in 2026.
