Civilization VII is heading to the stars with Earthrise next year.
The first official expansion for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII has been announced: Earthrise. Set for release in 2027, the expansion is teased to introduce “solar system exploration” alongside new gameplay systems as you prepare your civilisation to venture into space.
Earthrise will be a paid major expansion, with wishlists now available.

What is Sid Meier’s Civilization VII: Earthrise about?
The upcoming Earthrise expansion for the latest Civilization title will have you preparing your civilisation to venture into space “as it adapts to a changing world”.
According to the expansion’s Steam description, you will guide your people towards becoming pioneers of spaceflight as you progress through different Ages.
During the Antiquity and Exploration Ages, you’ll chart celestial bodies and turn your cosmic knowledge into a strategic advantage. As the Modern and Atomic Ages arrive, you’ll embark on your first missions beyond Earth, beginning with the construction of a space agency before launching missions into the Solar System and monitoring nearby moons and planets.
Each successful mission can earn features and resources that can be used to support your civilisation’s growth back on Earth.
The Earthrise expansion will also introduce new challenges as you adapt to different environments. The expansion will feature new units and technologies, including some that can alter terrain and others capable of reversing natural disasters.
While that is the extent of what has been revealed so far, Firaxis has stated that there are more in store for Earthrise, including additional gameplay systems, content updates, and new civilisations and leaders.
The Earthrise expansion requires the Sid Meier’s Civilization VII base game, and now is a pretty good time to pick them up on Steam, with a sale running until next week. The expansion is scheduled to launch in 2027, with details on platforms yet to be revealed.
