This week, Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct livestream to celebrate The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary. The franchise first kicked off with the release of 1986’s The Legend of Zelda, and is celebrating its 40th birthday with a bang. During the livestream, Nintendo showed off new looks at upcoming Zelda projects including the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, The Ocarina of Time remake, and various merchandise reveals for the franchise.

The Legend of Zelda movie
The Legend of Zelda movie has been revealed to be called just that: The Legend of Zelda. The lack of a subtitle is said to make sense when the movie actually comes out, with the Triforce also playing a major role. The movie is “based on the stories, ideas and concepts of The Legend of Zelda that have built up through 40 years of games.” Read more about it here.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s upcoming remake is officially launching on 5 November, 2026. The game is launching on Nintendo Switch 2 with completely overhauled visuals, improved combat, faster load times, and symphonic orchestral music. Players will also have more freedom to run and jump as Link, with improved camera controls.
Hyrule has also been majorly expanded upon with more cutscenes and dialogues for characters whom Link meets throughout his journey. If you hum songs in real life, Link will also play it on his ocarina in-game. Read more about it here.
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Concert
The Legend of Zelda is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a massive concert, performing iconic tracks from the franchise’s soundtrack. The tour’s North American leg will kick off in February 2027.
The Legend of Zelda Nintendo Switch 2 console
The Legend of Zelda is getting a custom Nintendo Switch SKU, along with a custom Pro Controller and carrying case themed after the franchise's 40th anniversary. Read more about it here.
