Capcom's Pragmata surpasses one million copies sold in just two days after launch

More Ws for Capcom.

Players are loving the father-daughter dynamic in Capcom’s original IP Pragmata, which has now reached over one million copies sold in just two days since its 17 April launch, Capcom confirmed

This early success also comes with incredible reception from all sides of the industry. Pragmata received a largely positive reception, breaking into Capcoms' all-time top ratings on Steam, ranking seventh behind Resident Evil titles and Devil May Cry 5. Pragmata's Steam ratings also very slightly edged out Clair Obscur: Expedition 33–a game notable for sweeping the 2025 Game Awards and achieving the coveted Game of the Year title.

Release Date: 17 April 2026

Platforms: PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2

Developer: Capcom

What is Pragmata about?

Pragmata is an original IP by Capcom that takes players into a sci-fi action-adventure singleplayer campaign. From a third-person perspective, players control a stranded astronaut, Hugh, and a young android girl, Diana, as they navigate a facility on the Moon called the Cradle, which has been taken over by rogue AI.

Players control Hugh during combat while helping Diana hack bots by solving puzzles–all while simultaneously dodging attacks on Hugh, as the hacking happens in real time. The players’ objective is to safely find their way back to Earth.

A rocky road to launch

Capcom first announced Pragmata in June 2020, but the game struggled in development limbo with extensive trial and error, ultimately causing multiple delays. While it was initially set for a 2022 release, Pragmata eventually launched in April 2026.

It seems the delays were worth the trouble, as Pragmata is finding its own success as an original idea in a sea of sequels and remakes within the AAA video game scene.

At the time of writing, Pragmata holds an “Overwhelmingly Positive” review rating on Steam from over 5,000 players, along with strong feedback from critics. Destructoid gave the game a 9.5/10 rating, and publications like EuroGamer and GamesRadar agreed on a 4/5 rating.

Its early success–despite multiple delays over the course of its six-year development period–has put the game on track to become one of the top titles of 2026. The feat is particularly impressive given that it was “developed primarily by a team of younger Capcom developers”, the publisher revealed.

Capcom also attributed the high sales figures to its multi-platform strategy, as Pragmata launched on PC and consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also set for a Nintendo Switch 2 release in Japan and other Asian regions on 24 April.

This marks yet another successful launch by Capcom. In the first half of this year alone, the Japanese studio has seen success with the launch of Resident Evil Requiem in February, which raked in over six million total sales so far, as well as the continuation of the successful Monster Hunter franchise, with the release of Monster Hunter Stories 3 in March.
