Resident Evil Requiem ranked among the greatest games of all time by Metacritic users

Resident Evil Requiem has soared to the top of Metacritic’s user rankings, earning an outstanding 9.5 rating.

Capcom’s highly-anticipated survival horror game Resident Evil Requiem has broken multiple records since its launch on 27 February. After swiftly achieving the highest concurrent player count in the franchise’s history, Resident Evil Requiem also topped Metacritic’s all-time video game user rankings, surging to first place with a 9.5 rating.

Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth main instalment in the hugely successful Resident Evil franchise, which began in 1996 and pioneered the “survival horror” genre. While many classic game series have struggled with their modern evolution, that is certainly not the case with Resident Evil.

After over six years in development, Capcom brought Resident Evil Requiem to fans just in time for the series’ 30th anniversary. Fans are tossed into another Umbrella Corporation-related fiasco featuring the return of iconic characters, including an aged Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of the 2003 Resident Evil Outbreak protagonist Alyssa Ashcroft.

Resident Evil Requiem dominates Metacritics’ user score

Following its exceptional reception, Requiem earned an impressive 9.5 user review score on Metacritic. At one point earlier today, it overtook 2025’s Game of the Year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, though at the time of writing, the two titles remain neck-and-neck as Requiem is pushed back to second place.

Critics on the site also scored Requiem with a solid 88, pushing it as second in the Best Games This Year category. The game is narrowly edged out by the yet-to-be-released and highly anticipated Pokemon Pokopia, which currently holds a score of 89.

Requiem didn’t only shine in the reviews department. Over its launch weekend, the game surged on the PC gaming platform Steam, shattering the franchise’s concurrent player record with more than 330,000 players. It is also currently the top-selling game on the platform.

With a smashing launch success, Resident Evil Requiem is already touted as a Game of the Year contender, and is on track to take home various accolades.
