Resident Evil Requiem has sold five million units worldwide, breaking franchise records for Capcom

Capcom’s latest Resident Evil game is a staggering hit.

Capcom has officially announced sales numbers for Resident Evil Requiem, and it’s proving to be a meteoric hit for the franchise. In just five days following its 27 February launch, the horror-action game racked up a whopping five million sales worldwide, surpassing Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 (2023), and Resident Evil 2 (2019) to become the fastest-selling game in the entire franchise.

Resident Evil Requiem becomes fastest-selling game in the franchise

Capcom has hit a new franchise milestone with the release of Resident Evil Requiem, which has managed to sell a whopping five million units since its launch on 27 February, 2026. The game publisher confirmed the news via a new press release, accompanied by a celebratory illustration featuring both of the game’s protagonists: Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy.

In the press release, Capcom noted that the Resident Evil franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month. It also stated that Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the series, was developed using the RE Engine, which “allowed the company to deliver visuals in photorealistic detail, including the characters’ skin, teary eyes, and flowing hair, as well as the translucency of light.”

Capcom also noted that the game has multiple difficulty settings, adjustable first-person and third-person perspectives, and more features to cater to a broad fanbase. The company also affirmed that it remains “firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.”

Resident Evil Requiem is now the fastest-selling game in franchise history, according to sales numbers provided by Capcom of previous mainline installments. Its predecessor, Resident Evil Village, shipped over three million units in its first four days of release, tying the game with Resident Evil 2 (2019) as the third-fastest-selling game in the franchise. Resident Evil 2 also shipped three million units in its first week of release, and four million in its first month.

Resident Evil 4 (2023) also sold over three million copies in its first two days, but only broke five million sales three months after launch, by July 2023. By comparison, Requiem sold more copies than all three games did in their first week of release in a mere five days, making it a sales juggernaut for Capcom.

Word of mouth around the game has been positive thus far, with fans praising Leon’s grizzled return to the franchise, and Grace’s introduction as a new protagonist. It’s likely that the game will continue to enjoy strong sales in the week ahead, marking a high point for Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary.
