Xbox reveals next-generation console Project Helix
Microsoft Gaming’s new CEO Asha Sharma is officially ready to steer Xbox towards its next big gaming console. This week, the company shared a first look at its upcoming successor to the Xbox Series X|S, confirming that the new console will be able to play both Xbox and PC games.
Sharma shared a tweet going into more detail on the announcement, which named the next console “Project Helix”:
"Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console. Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!"
While PlayStation has yet to reveal its eventual PlayStation 5 successor, it looks like Xbox is decidedly more confident for what it has planned for the next generation of gaming. The device sounds functionally similar to a Steam Machine, replicating the console gaming experience for PC gamers in the living room–albeit with the addition of Xbox games.
Sharma will go into more detail on Project Helix at the upcoming Game Developers Conference (GDC), which runs 9–13 March, 2026.
