WarCraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom will bridge the stories of WarCraft III and World of WarCraft.
Blizzard Entertainment's beloved RTS, WarCraft III, is getting a new campaign update over 23 years since the release of WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne all the way back in July 2003. Technically, the update is for WarCraft III: Reforged, but one would struggle to find die-hard fans of the classic RTS calling Reforged an update.
The new update, titled ‘Forsaken Kingdom’, bridges WarCraft III to World of Warcraft by depicting the aftermath of the sack of Lordaeron by the fallen Prince Arthas and the subsequent rise of the Forsaken under Sylvanas Windrunner.
Blizzard shadow-dropping Forsaken Kingdom comes as a surprise, considering the poor reception for WarCraft III Reforged in January 2020. While Reforged was marketed as a full remake for the beloved title, it released with tons of bugs, missing features from the base game, and changes that didn't go over well with the existing player base.
While Blizzard did fix some of the aforementioned issues with the remake, many thought that the developer had simply abandoned the title. It remains to be seen if Forsaken Kingdom will end up winning back the good will of WarCraft III fans, this surprising new update does offer plenty of new content for them to enjoy.
What's new in WarCraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom?
The Forsaken Kingdom campaign unlocks a prologue, three campaign chapters, a neutral Forsaken Paladin hero unit, and story content that connects the fall of Lordaeron to the new era of Azeroth seen in World of WarCraft. A Definitive Edition update also brings free performance and graphical improvements, as well as modern social and matchmaking features to new and returning players.
