Marvel’s Wolverine locks in September 2026 release date, ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI launch

Wolverine players will have two months to play the game before GTA VI releases.

After nearly five years since its original reveal, Marvel's Wolverine is officially set to launch this September on PlayStation 5. Marvel has confirmed 15 September 2026 as the release date, placing it roughly two months ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI's release, which will be in November. The release date was announced on 25 September via Marvel’s official website.

Developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel Games, the studio known for Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is delivering an original story centred on Logan’s past. According to the announcement post, as Wolverine searches for answers about who he used to be, he will “do whatever it takes,” bringing brutal claw combat, violent rage and relentless determination to the forefront.

The announcement also cautions players to “Beware: spilled guts and broken bones await,” reinforcing the mature tone shown so far.

Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay trailer showcases Logan vs Omega Red

The announcement also references the gameplay trailer first revealed during PlayStation’s State of Play in September 2025, which offered the first extended look at how the game plays.

The footage showed Logan fighting across a range of locations, from the dimly-lit Princess Bar to stark, frozen wilderness environments. Combat was shown in close-quarters with heavy impacts, and enemies reacting visibly to each slash. Environmental damage and Wolverine’s regenerative healing factor played a clear role, allowing him to absorb punishment and continue pressing forward.

The trailer also shows Logan going head-to-head with Omega Red in a vicious confrontation. The exchange is raw and physical, with prolonged melee combat that underlines just how much punishment Wolverine can take and dish out.

Viewers also noticed a brief appearance that strongly suggest Mystique and Omega Red may be involved in the story, though further details remain under wraps.

Although Wolverine is coming to PlayStation 5 in September, devs have not confirmed if the game is also releasing on PC and other consoles.
