Marvel's Wolverine is looking every bit as violent and gory as fans of the iconic character have wished for.
Marvel Games and Insomniac Games have finally unveiled Marvel's Wolverine, which is set to be released on the PlayStation 5 in Fall 2026. Fans got their first official look at gameplay for Marvel's Wolverine during the latest PlayStation State of Play on Thursday (25 September), with an action-packed trailer that comes with all the violence and gore one would expect from a game centered on Weapon X himself.
Insomniac, the studio behind the smash-hit Marvel's Spider-Man series, promises to deliver their own original take on one of the most beloved characters in Marvel Comics. The titular character for Marvel's Wolverine will be played by Australian actor Liam McIntyre, of Starz's Spartacus fame, and is on the hunt to uncover the secrets of a dark past that keeps eluding him.
As with any story centered on the Wolverine, he'll have to leave a bloody mess in his wake to get to where he needs to go. His iconic adamantium claws, rapid healing factor, and unbridled berserker rage will help in that regard. Based on what was shown from the trailer, this Wolverine won't be your typical modern Marvel superhero. He is still a reluctant hero haunted by his past, tapping into his rage and pain to become a nigh-unstoppable living weapon.
Insomniac's Wolverine will go on a globe-trotting journey to places like Madripoor, the Canadian wilderness, and Tokyo as he uncovers the secrets of his past. He'll see some familiar faces as well, including Mystique and Omega Red–there's even what looks like a prototype of a Sentinel at the end of the trailer too.
Insomniac said in a PlayStation blog post that they aim to deliver “the ultimate Wolverine fantasy built on Insomniac staples like fast, fluid, and ferocious combat; exhilarating, action-packed set pieces; robust accessibility features; and a gripping story that taps into the core tenets of one of the most compelling comic book characters of all-time.”
“We’re breaking new ground with Wolverine, yes, but our penchant for telling stories about heroes overcoming colossal odds is as strong as ever. We’re eager to explore Logan’s story with you and tap into his signature spin on heroism, which is much darker and more brutal than you might expect from Insomniac,” added Insomniac.
More information on Marvel's Wolverine is set to be released in Spring 2026.
