The peak player record propels Phantom Blade Zero into Steam's all-time rankings.
S-GAME's Phantom Blade Zero launched to meteoric success on Steam, recording a peak of 723,876 concurrent players just hours after its release on 28 October.
This makes Phantom Blade Zero the best-performing single-player game on Steam this year. According to SteamDB, it has also climbed Steam's all-time peak player rankings, surpassing Hollow Knight: Silksong and Slay the Spire 2, two popular releases this year.
The figure of more than 700,000 concurrent players comes from Steam alone. Phantom Blade Zero was also released on PlayStation 5 and the Epic Games Store, meaning its overall player base could be much larger.
The achievement is particularly impressive given that the game launched in the middle of the week, with many expecting its player base to grow as the weekend approaches.

Phantom Blade Zero joins Steam's most-played games
Phantom Blade Zero has enjoyed critical success and is also attracting a substantial audience on the PC platform Steam. The wuxia action role-playing game surpassed 400,000 concurrent players shortly after launch before gradually climbing to the 700,000 milestone just hours later.
This marks a significantly stronger performance than Resident Evil Requiem, which recorded a peak of 344,214 concurrent players at launch, despite also being available on Xbox. Phantom Blade Zero has also surpassed prominent titles such as Subnautica 2, Slay the Spire 2 and Hollow Knight: Silksong.
In Steam's all-time peak player rankings, Phantom Blade Zero has skyrocketed to 15th place, outperforming major multiplayer titles such as ARC Raiders, Marvel Rivals and Apex Legends.
Fans expect the game's player base to grow further over the weekend, when player activity typically increases. If that happens, it could potentially overtake other prominent single-player titles, including Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, and Elden Ring, all of which have recorded high peak player records.
For now, Steam's all-time peak player rankings remain topped by Black Myth: Wukong, with an astonishing peak of 2.4 million concurrent players, followed by Cyberpunk 2077 at one million.
Phantom Blade Zero is a major entry in the Phantom series, formerly known as Rainblood, and follows Phantom Blade: Executioners, released in 2021. The game has been highly anticipated, and just days after its launch, it is already shaping up to be one of the year's most successful releases.
