Netflix is officially making a PUBG TV series.
Netflix is officially moving forward with a rather unlikely game adaptation: PUBG Battlegrounds. Krafton’s multiplayer battle royale game is getting adapted into a live-action TV series, with none other than Donald Glover (also known as musical artist Childish Gambino) set to direct and star in the adaptation.
What is the live-action PUBG TV series about?
Netflix and Krafton are teaming up to adapt PUBG Battlegrounds as a live-action TV series. The project reportedly came together “after lengthy negotiations” as per Deadline, with Netflix bringing in Donald Glover to star in and direct the project. His brother Stephen Glover will write and executive produce the series.
Michael Schaefer for Neon TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for Krafton’s LV3H will also executive produce the series. Krafton is involved in the project via its entertainment entity LV3H, which is developing and producing projects under PUBG’s ongoing expansion into original entertainment.
Netflix has multiple game adaptations in the works beyond PUBG, including Assassin’s Creed, Gears of War, Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering, and more. As for PUBG, the franchise is also expanding with a new multiplayer first-person shooter called PUBG DED.NET, while its previously-announced extraction shooter PUBG: Black Budget has been cancelled.
