Grand Theft Auto 6 is the new Hollow Knight: Silksong, it appears.
Rockstar Games resurfaced from development on Grand Theft Auto VI this week with some unfortunate news to share: the highly-anticipated open-world game will now only launch on 19 November, 2026. That marks a six-month delay from its original release window in May 2026.
Here’s the game’s latest trailer, released six months ago:
Rockstar Games delays Grand Theft Auto VI to November 2026
Rockstar Games is officially pushing back Grand Theft Auto VI’s release date once again, amid rumours of an impending delay circulating the internet in recent months. The game had previously locked in a 26 May, 2026 release date earlier this year, after again delaying the game from a tentative 2025 release window.
That earlier 2025 release window now appears to have been wildly premature, given the game has been delayed twice since its reveal. Rockstar Games made the announcement today, saying to fans:
“Hi everyone, Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
The developer continued: “We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.”
Rockstar said by and large the same thing earlier this year, telling players that the game would be delayed from 2025 to “deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.” Granted, this is not a huge surprise for those who have experienced Rockstar’s last few game rollouts.
Grand Theft Auto V was delayed from its original Q2 2013 release window to September the same year. Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed twice from its original planned launch in 2017, and finally launched in October 2018. If Grand Theft Auto VI retains its new release date, it will similarly have been delayed twice.
By the time Grand Theft Auto VI launches, it will have been 13 years since the last mainline entry in the GTA franchise. To call the game highly-anticipated would be an understatement; with a return to a modernised Vice City, a stunning open-world, and the promise of more Rockstar-like fidelity in the game’s visual flourishes and details, players have been eagerly anticipating more news on the sequel.
Grand Theft Auto VI will now launch on 19 November, 2026.
