Netflix reportedly gearing up for a Crash Bandicoot animated adaptation

Looks like Crash is taking another wild ride, this time straight onto Netflix.

Netflix might be making a pit stop in Wumpa Island, with reports claiming the streamer is developing an animated Crash Bandicoot series. According to a report by What’s On Netflix, the project is now quietly in development. The studio behind Sonic Prime, WildBrain, is reportedly producing the series.

WildBrain has been on quite the animation road trip already, handling titles like Carmen Sandiego, The Snoopy Show, and Johnny Test, alongside Netflix’s Sonic Prime from 2022 to 2024. Now, it seems they’re gearing up for another high-speed adaptation, this time with the chaotic bandicoot taking centrestage.

WildBrain will reportedly work on the Crash Bandicoot show

Details are still under wraps, but if the report holds true, this would mark Crash Bandicoot’s first solo show. The spinning mascot previously made a cameo in Netflix’s Skylanders Academy, sporting a divisive Australian accent that didn’t exactly steer fans in the right direction. This time around, the hope is that the character will stick to what he does best: running, jumping, spinning, and, well, maybe keeping the talking to a minimum.

For long-time fans, it’s wild to think how far the orange bandicoot has come since his PlayStation debut in 1996. Originally created by Naughty Dog before the studio went on to create franchises like Uncharted and The Last of Us, Crash Bandicoot has seen everything from kart racing spin-offs to the 2017 N. Sane Trilogy remake and 2021’s Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. An Amazon Studios adaptation was in the works a few years ago, but ended up getting canned in 2021. With the game franchise now owned by Xbox following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, Crash’s next stop looks to be on Netflix’s content highway.

With gaming adaptations revving up across every streaming service, from Arcane and Fallout to Splinter Cell, Crash Bandicoot seems like the perfect next ride. Whether he speaks or just lets his chaos do the talking, one thing’s for sure: this road trip’s going to get messy, and fans will be there for every crash, spin, and “Whoa!” along the way.
