TeamLFG is a new studio backed by PlayStation, bringing together veteran developers to explore fresh directions in multiplayer gaming.
A new addition has joined the PlayStation Studios family, as Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) formally announced the debut of teamLFG, a studio spun out of Bungie’s incubation programme and now set to create its own path.
The announcement was made by PlayStation Studios in a blog post published on Wednesday (7 May).
“Today, I am thrilled to officially unveil a new studio in the PlayStation Studios family,” said SIE CEO Hermen Hulst in the announcement. “TeamLFG originated at Bungie, but has also rallied developers from across the industry to bring to life an ambitious incubation project that I’m very excited about.” The new studio is based in Bellevue, Washington.
TeamLFG brings together industry veterans from titles such as Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, and Fortnite, along with new talent offering fresh creative insight.
Its founding team said they are “very grateful to be joining PlayStation Studios” and are “passionate about exceptional action-based gameplay, moment-to-moment game feel, and richly social virtual worlds.”
TeamLFG will focus on multiplayer games shaped by community and comedy
The name “teamLFG” references the term “Looking For Group,” hinting at the studio’s focus on multiplayer and community-driven experiences. In a blog post on the official PlayStation site, the team explained, “We are driven by a mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging.” They added that they want to support a culture where players “make myths and memes out of each other.”
The studio’s first game, still untitled, is a team-based action game that borrows from a wide mix of genres. The developers describe it as drawing inspiration from “fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games.” The setting is described as a “light-hearted, comedic world” within a newly created “mythic, science-fantasy universe.”
Born from Bungie, but building something new
TeamLFG also intends to involve players early in development and to continue iterating based on feedback once live. “It’s critical that we stay nimble enough to react to player feedback,” they noted, emphasising long-term support as part of their live service approach.
Although this is a new direction for many of its developers, the project builds on Bungie’s long-standing multiplayer design philosophy. Bungie first outlined the concept in mid-2023, describing it as aiming for “depth, mastery, and Bungie’s signature action feel,” while calling for a diverse team and inclusive development practices.
Bungie, was acquired by SIE in 2022. Then in 2024, it laid off 220 of its staff and transferred 155 to SIE in an incubation project. The incubation project officially became its own studio, now known as teamLFG.
No release date or platforms have been confirmed for teamLFG’s first project. Further details are expected in due course. Meanwhile, Bungie continues to work on Destiny 2 and the extraction shooter Marathon, due out in September.
