Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 DLC hit with “Very Negative” reviews over disappointing content

The Space Marine 2 voice pack DLC has faced severe backlash, with players criticising its low-quality, underwhelming content.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive run since its launch in 2024. However, what initially appeared to be a minor US$5 DLC release has now become its first major misstep. The add-on has sparked significant backlash from the community, with many players criticising it as underbaked and flooding it with negative reviews on Steam.

Space Marine 2 DLC hit with backlash over poor quality

On 26 February, Saber Interactive released a US$5 DLC titled “Chapter Voice Pack 1”, advertised as featuring 450 re-recorded voice lines in multiple language options for the Space Marine Chapters–Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Black Templars. The pack also includes an exclusive Space Marine head cosmetic tied to the voice pack.

However, players were quick to express disappointment after trying the DLC. Despite its low price, many felt it was a severely low-quality product that appeared rushed. Players reported numerous missing elements, with a noticeable lack of banter and mission dialogue making the experience feel sparse. Some also noted that the new and default voice lines occasionally overlap, with the original voices cutting in during objectives–creating a jarring effect.

Others have questioned whether the advertised 450 re-recorded voice lines genuinely exist, suggesting the figure may include grunts and incidental sounds that do not meaningfully expand the experience. Some speculate that the total likely also account for non-English versions, which could explain why the content feels less substantial than promoted–despite Saber heavily emphasising the “over 450” figure.

Community’s responses to Space Marine 2 DLC

A Reddit post by user Existing_Theory_8708 detailed their disappointment, describing the DLC as not worth the money, underwhelming, and bordering on false advertising. The post resonated strongly within the community, amassing nearly 3,000 upvotes, with many comments echoing similar frustrations.

Numerous players have reportedly requested refunds on Steam, with one user writing: “I hope Saber is getting slammed with refund fees for this nonsense.”

Another followed, “I wasn’t expecting the new voices to have banter with each other, that’s fine, but the default voices constantly cutting in for objectives is crazy.”

“As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t even work. Techmarine’s volume is extremely low, I can hardly hear him at all," another comment stated, prompting wider discussion about the game’s poor audio mixing, which forces players to manually adjust settings to compensate.

Steam reviews have also reflected the backlash. The DLC is now rated “Very Negative”, with one of the top reviews stating:

“I honestly wouldn’t have minded paying a few more dollars for something actually good and comprehensive. Warhammer is an expansive, and expensive, universe; many of us are no strangers to spending money on a hobby we enjoy,” wrote user Aggietoker.
