Those eager to try the old school MapleStory can sign up for the Classic World's Closed Online Test soon!
MapleStory Classic World is set to open registrations for the game’s Closed Online Test, which begins on 10 March and runs until early April. Players will need an existing Nexon account, so it may be time to dust off any old login details. Further sign-up information will be revealed next week.
MapleStory Classic World was announced nearly a year ago during the Global MapleStory 20th anniversary. Developer Nexon has since taken gradual steps to launch the game, with it currently in the pre-alpha phase, and the closed beta coming in February 2026. A definite release date has yet to be announced.
MapleStory Classic World comes to life soon
The MapleStory Classic World server invites old-school enthusiasts back to the pre-Big Bang update era, allowing players to experience the authentic 2006 version of MapleStory. The highly requested “classic version” will launch as a permanent server, with developers committed to providing long-term support and updates.
Unlike most new releases, Nexon is not aiming to build something entirely new, but rather to revive the original and notoriously more challenging version of MapleStory, making it accessible for modern audiences.
The Classic World version preserves the original mechanics, including slower levelling progression. Players will once again be able to explore iconic locations such as Victoria Island, El Nath, Ludibrium, and other legendary areas.
While the game retains its signature pixel-art style, it has been refined for modern gaming, featuring enhanced visuals, expanded character customisation options, and a redesigned user interface. Social features–a massive part of the old-school MapleStory experience–will also return, including Party Quests, guild systems, and player trading.
