A 2024 Game of the Year contender joins PlayStation Plus this May.
PlayStation has officially announced May’s PlayStation Plus Monthly Games, which come at no extra cost for all current PlayStation Plus subscribers. This month, the service adds three games: Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. All of these games will be available for redemption beginning on 6 May, 2025.
Let’s run these games down.
PlayStation Plus Monthly games for May
First off, PlayStation Plus is giving away Ark: Survival Ascended for all subscribers this month. This is a remaster of the better-known Ark: Survival Evolved, including access to all of the game’s previously-released world DLC. The game supports up to 70 multiplayers in public online multiplayer, and local two-player splitscreen. The survival game has players hunt and tame various dinosaurs in an ancient land, while scavenging to survive.
Next, Balatro is coming to PlayStation Plus. This critically-acclaimed roguelike deck builder was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024, but lost the title to Astro Bot. That doesn’t mean it’s anything less than excellent, however. The deck builder is based on poker, and has players combine joker cards with poker hands to create unexpectedly powerful synergies and defeat blinds. It’s a lot more addictive than you’d think.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun will whet the appetites of hardcore Warhammer fans who also hunger for a good first-person shooter. This chaotic game hits PlayStation Plus this month, and puts players in the shoes of Space Marines fighting against Chaos. It’s styled after classic 90s retro shooters, so expect a campier take on the Warhammer universe.
Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun hit PlayStation Plus on 6 May, and will be available to claim until 2 June, 2025.
