COVID hits beastcoast; Will be isolated for elimination series vs PSG.LGD at TI11

beastcoast will play their TI11 elimination series against PSG.LGD from isolation rooms and without their coach tomorrow.

In the return of LANs in the era of COVID, competing isn't always just against the enemy team.

According to staff for the SA team, the players are all ill and will need to play from the isolation rooms —bar the coach. There doesn't seem to be an allowance made for the coach to participate.

beastcoast will be facing off against PSG.LGD tomorrow, Sunday, October 23rd at 04:00 CEST in the Lower Bracket Round 3 eliminations series.

The SA team just swept through Evil Geniuses, eliminating the NA team from The International yesterday.

COVID and TI11

beastcoast isn't the first team at the event to be trying to seize the aegis under less-than-optimal conditions.

The first COVID-related reports from The International 2022 surfaced almost one week ago when PSG.LGD had to play three series on Day 3 of the group stage with multiple draft penalties after failing to report a COVID case in time.

The next day, right after they forfeited a game vs. PSG.LGD, Royal Never Give Up announced on their Weibo page that their mid-lane player, Lu "Somnus" Yao, wasn’t feeling well.  Somnus tested positive for COVID only after a second test and was immediately hospitalized.  He played the following series from the hospital room.

Ahead of their final match of the day, against Evil Geniuses RNG made an update on their Weibo page stating that the whole team, except for Yap "xNova" Jian Wei has in the meantime, tested positive for COVID.

All members of the team except xNova played from isolation rooms, leaving the Malaysian player on the stage alone with for stuffed teddy bears to keep him company.

The International 2022

The International in Singapore will be the largest Dota tournament in history featuring 30 world-class teams battling out on the road to the Aegis of Champions across 4 consecutive weekends.

TI11 is taking place in Singapore from October 8th (starting with the offline/LAN last chance qualifiers) to October 30th with the grand finals.

On 22nd January 2022, it was announced that the second and third-place teams from each region's qualifiers would compete in the Last Chance Qualifier LAN event prior to The International to decide the final two qualification spots - thus expanding The International 2022 from 18 to 20 teams.
