BetBoom Team said this decision was made due to recent results not aligning with the organisation's ambitions.
Russian esports organisation
BetBoom Team has announced that it is putting its Dota 2 division on hiatus. In a statement posted on Monday (2 November), BetBoom said this decision was made because “our current competitive results do not align with our ambitions or the direction we see for the organisation moving forward.”
As a result of this move, BetBoom's roster of Ilja “Kiritych” Ulyanov,
Vitalie “Save-” Melnic,
Matvey “MieRo” Vasyunin,
Georgii “swedenstrong” Zainalabidov, and
Vladislav “Kataomi`” Semenov have been transferred to the organisation's inactive roster.
Kiritych, Save, MieRo, and Kataomi have notably formed a new stack called Do Konca, and are set to compete in 1win Essence III and BLAST SLAM IX later this month. Rounding out the roster is Gleb “kiyotaka” Ziryanov, who will be playing as the team's mid laner as Save has returned to the position 4 support role he previously had for the majority of his time with BetBoom.
BetBoom also assured fans that they are not exiting the Dota 2 competitive scene, assuaging fears that another major organisation will be leaving the scene following the departure of The International (TI) 2025 champions
Team Falcons in September.
“Today, we're pausing to think through our next steps. All players from the current roster have been moved to the inactive [roster]. This is not goodbye. Stay tuned!” said BetBoom.
Why did BetBoom Team put its Dota 2 division in hiatus?
Since its entry into the Dota 2 scene in April 2022, BetBoom have been one of the biggest names in the highly-competitive Eastern European scene. With that said, they were unable to reach the same heights as the region's top dogs like
Team Spirit, or more recently
PARIVISION and
Team Yandex.
During the 2025-2026 season, BetBoom won one Tier 1 title at PGL Wallachia Season 8 and finished in the Top 3 in four other events, namely FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2, PGL Wallachia Season 7, BLAST SLAM VII, and the Dota 2 Esports World Cup 2026. They then capped off their season with a fourth place finish at TI 2026, losing in the lower bracket semifinals to eventual champions Spirit. That result notably matched BetBoom's placement in Dota 2's annual world championship tournament in 2025, prompting concerns that the team may have already plateaud.
As a result, BetBoom entered the 2026-2027 season with a retooled roster as mid laner Danil “gpk” Skutin and coach Anatoly "boolk" Ivanov took a break from competitive play. Save took over as mid laner after playing as the position 4 support since he began his career in 2019, with swedenstrong filling in the gap left by the former's role change.
Alexander “TORONTOTOKYO” Khertek has also returned to BetBoom two years since his last stint with the team, though he will be taking over as coach from boolk instead of being part of the active roster.
BetBoom's retooled roster ended up producing disappointing results, finishing 9th-12th in BLAST SLAM VIII and 9th-10th in PARI Universe, which then prompted the organisation to put its Dota 2 division on hiatus.
BetBoom's decision to put its Dota 2 division on hiatus is the latest major development in the ongoing post-TI 2026 roster shuffle. Check out GosuGamers' post-TI 2026 roster shuffle tracker to keep track of what the competitive Dota 2 landscape will look like for the 2026-2027 season.
