EG will no longer operate a StarCraft 2 division coming into the new year. After transferring ownership from Alex Garfield to former Dota 2 captain Peter “ppd” Dager in a move that saw EG become player-owned organization, the team has released several key members, including Chris “HuK” Loranger and Geoff “InControl” Robinson.
InControl has been one of the longest-standing members of Evil Geniuses, dating his initiation back to 2009, while HuK emerged as one of EG’s poster boys on the competitive scene following his acquisition from Team Liquid in 2011, winning MLG Orlando and placing top four in few more premier tournaments by the end of 2014.
The closing of EG’s StarCraft 2 division also means that the trio of Marcus “Thorzain” Eklöf, Libo “Xenocider” Chang and Conan “Suppy” Liu will also enter free agency, though they’ve been competitively inactive for several years already.
Though the release of the StarCraft 2 roster comes as no surprise and is one of many such moves that happened in the last year, including the departure of major KeSPA teams from the game, that’s not the case with the release of another EG legacy, FGC player and multi-EVO champion Justin Wong. A seven-times Marvel vs. Capcom EVO winner and one of the best Street Fighter X Tekken players, Wong parts ways with EG after seven years with the org. Eduardo “PR Balrog” Bradly and Yuko “Chocoblanka” Momochi will also join Justin Wong in free agency.
