Interview with Rox.Dimaga

Popular Ukranian Starcraft player Dmitry “Rox.KIS.Dimaga” Filipchuk recently gave an interview to a Russian gaming portal Goodgame.ru as part of their CraftLife initiative to get to know gamers on a more personal level, Gosugamers presents to you the translation and part summary of the issue.

Where were you born and where do you live now?

I was born in the great city of Chernovcy, Ukraine, where I still live. It’s a pretty nice town, “Little Paris” as we like to call it. There are a lot of good “Old Europe alike” alleys; it’s all very nice and beautiful. If you happen to stop by – you are welcome to do so, I might even take you up for a tour around the place, you’ll love it here.

What can you tell us about the school years?

Like everybody else, there’s a whole lot I can say about school. I started out fine, like every kid anxious to learn, closer to high school I shifted into the more common “standard” group, nothing special, a couple of parents notifications, nothing too serious, although I probably don’t remember all of it already. After high school I made it into the University and now I am a licensed economic cybernetics specialist.

Any childhood hobbies, perhaps something you’re still into?

Sure, there were hobbies, mostly sports. Made the school Volleyball and Basketball teams. Trying B-ball every once in a while but I don’t have that kind of time anymore. Although every Sunday I play football with a bunch of friends, hit the Gym, overall trying to stay in shape.

Who needs iNControl when we have such a powerhouse like you here, we really should send you to WCG Ultimate Gamer, you’ll show them.

Bring it on!

As far as I understand you follow sports, any favorite teams?

Mostly football, I am a Dinamo Kiev fan myself, ruling for my team to get the UEFA Cup and later the Super Cup.

Obviously your Computer plays a significant role in your life, where did you first meet the “Machine”?

8-bit console I used to play with my neighbor. Then came the Sega and eventually Sony Playstation, where along with Tekken and Gran Turismo I tried my first RTS – Red Alert, and I got hooked. Later on I moved to that same Red Alert but on PC, and eventually my neighbor introduced me to StarCraft, first match vs. a computer and… the ball started rolling.

Judging by your photos here you’re a somewhat of a body builder, are you into anything serious, like Pumping Iron?

Well, I think body builder will be overstepping it, I just walk into the gym and start pumping; done that for 5 years.

Got any advice for gamers who aren’t in decent enough shape? After all statistics are always cruel, but that’s the truth, most gamers are far from perfection these days.

I’d say it’s enough to practice any sport, just make sure it’s on a more or less regular basis and it’s not Chess.

Moving on to Girls, any action?

I’m working on it.

Recall last time you gave a girl some flowers?

Can’t remember, I am not romantic type, most gifts are fun casual “type”.

Let’s say you are not practicing e-sports, what would you be into if you had the option?

Wouldn’t want to change anything in particular. If there were no Cyber sports for me, I’d probably be working with my parents, you know, family business stuff.

Do you have a permanent job or do you consider e-Sports a job?

Not a job per-se, but the money is good, so why not.

Any bad habits?

Beer, in moderation, clubbing, you know club DJs and stuff, the whole scene.

Okay, so we established – not a romantic, what about the masculine side, fighting, broken ankles, letting energy flow, you know the drill.

To be honest, - not a fan. Last time was in a fight about a year ago, just had to step in. I am more of a "beat the living hell out of a punching bag" guy, rather than "punch the douchebag" guy.

Final question about general culture. Been to any movies, theaters, museums perhaps?

Rarely movies, last time about two months ago, nothing special, can’t even remember the name and what it was about, so, really nothing special.

By the looks of it Starcraft got yet another great player to its Army of gamers, all we can do is rule for Dimaga in his quest to take on the Koreans.
