Sweden vs. Denmark **

[s]teamswe[/s]On a gray afternoon, the second round in Clanbase's Nations Cup was played. Sweden - who came out of the first round winning versus United Kingdom with 5-2, stood up against their neighbours Denmark - who lost a close game versus Greece in the last round.

Sweden facing Denmark is a classic game, not only in StarCraft - in handball the two teams faced each other a while ago. In that game, we could see that the previous handball champions Sweden were taken away their title as the best nation. Will this game end up the same, or will Sweden prove once again that they live up to their old slogan "Can you stop us?"?

WhiZ[SWE] vs. [JaC]Blade[DnK]Players: Sweden WhiZ[SWE], Denmark [JaC]Blade
Map(s): The Lost Temple

whizvsblade1.jpgAll right, we start off at the second game, since neither of the players saved the replay from the first, and I wasn't there. WhiZ lost the first game to Blade, meaning that we start off with 0-1 favouring Blade. The map is Lost Temple, where WhiZ is located at '9, and Blade is '6. WhiZ, feeling the taste of vengeance, after losing the first game, decides to go dual barrack in the middle of the map, while Blade goes Gateway -> Cybernetics Core. WhiZ, feeling lucky, charges his fellow marines and some SCVs and constructs a bunker next to Blade's gateway. And now, the game is basically WhiZ's. When Blade's zealots or dragoons are warped in from Aiur, they can do no harm at all to WhiZ cascade of bunkers. 1-1!

whizvsblade2.jpgThe third and last game to determine which player wins the game series is, just as the previous games, played on Lost Temple. WhiZ is now located at '3, and Blade at '9 o clock. WhiZ puts his second hatchery in his main, afraid of an early zealot/probe rush, while Blade goes another Gateway followed up by a Cybernetics Core, teching up to reach the power of the Templar. But WhiZ's zerglings were just too much, despite Blade's effort of defending his ramp with zealots and probes. WhiZ is the winner of the match, 2-1!

Sweden 1-0 Denmark
Daaman[SWE] vs. DeacoM[DnK]Players: Sweden EroticCake (Daaman), Denmark iG.DeacoM
Map(s): The Lost Temple

The first game starring Daaman and former captain of Team Denmark; iG.DeacoM. The standard first map is, as you might have guessed - Lost Temple, with Daaman at '3 and DeacoM at '6. Two minutes in, the players are constructing a barrack each; Daaman in the center of the map, and DeacoM in his base. When they're up and running, both players immediately start to construct a Factory - pretty standard TvsT. Daaman goes for a starport, while DeacoM goes Dual Factories. Both players have their barrack floating in their enemy's base; scouting for something unusual.

daamanvsdeacom1.jpg A few minutes in, DeacoM decides to safe expand, lifting off his Command Center from his defended ramp and to the natural. Daaman is still going strong with his main, adding some turrets to his purple Terran base. Daaman has an annoying Wraith flying around, aiming his Burst Lasers towards DeacoM's expansion. With this knowledge, Daaman sends a dropship and cliffs DeacoM's expansion that lacks in defense. DeacoM then stresses out a dropship, and quickly drops a siege tank, taking care of Daaman's three Tanks in siege mode.
daamanvsdeacom2.jpgThe Swedish Terran also harasses the red and white DeacoM, but that's nothing a bunch of SCVs can't handle. By now both players have another expansion up; Daaman at '12, DeacoM at his mineral only. It's pretty even; but here's something that will keep DeacoM awake at night - in an attempt to cliff Daaman, both his dropships get shot down by one single turret that Daaman strategically (or on a whim) has put up.

Fortunately for DeacoM, he's got more to give. With a bunch of factory troops, he advances towards Daaman's natural expansion - but Daaman puts metal against metal, steel against steel!, so DeacoM is forced to retreat.

daamanvsdeacom3.jpgVarious attacks coming from both players, that only result in unit casualties go on for some minutes, when suddenly three Battlecruisers plop out of Daaman's three Starports. Waiting for three more, Daaman commands his troops towards DeacoM's main, which is pretty open. By the time the six battlecruisers are out, Daaman sends all his troops out in the open, forcing DeacoM to a 'gg'.

#2 Most critics say that sequels aren't as good as the original, well apart from Terminator 2 and Aliens, but this sequel is an interesting one. Daaman, taking the control pretty early in the game, with wraiths and tanks; an impressive push forcing DeacoM to attack with all he's got, even down to the Fusion Cutter kamikaze SCVs. By now, the game is basically over; Daaman has a lot more SCVs than DeacoM, and a lot more troops. The finishing blow is once again a dropship getting shot down by the missiles from Daaman's turrets.

Sweden 2-0 Denmark
KaaZ[SWE] vs. Superman[DnK]Players: Sweden KaaZ[SWE], Denmark Superman[DnK]
Map(s): The Lost Temple, Silent Vortex

I was chatting with ash.Dahli during this game, and he told me that SupermaN[DnK] was their newest recruit in Team Denmark, and that he was one of the best, according to ash.Dahli. Well, KaaZ is Sweden's newest recruit as well, so this is a battle of the 'youngsters'.

The first game was played on Lost Temple, where the new blood showed their capacity, and why they are in their National Teams. KaaZ had his hatchery at '12, and SupermaN was warped in at '6. KaaZ starts by adding a hatchery below his ramp, while 'Clark Kent' goes Dual Gateways. Some minutes in, KaaZ takes his natural expansion, when SupermaN defends his ramp well with zealots, with the attempt to keep zerglings out of his base.

kaazvssuperman1.jpgKaaZ starts to pump hydralisks, with speed and everything. SupermaN is indeed teching up to High Templars, but by the time those hydralisks start to launch their spines towards the brave Zealots, it's too late. 1-0 to KaaZ!

Malfunction error="couldn't find replay 2 of the game KaaZ vs. SupermaN" +msgbox="Lex Luthor must have stolen the replay, sorry" Well, according to KaaZ, it was a pretty sucky game on Lost Temple, '12 versus '3. KaaZ lost the game, and now it says 1-1.

Thank god, finally a game that's not Lost Temple! The third and last game was played on Silent Vortex. A red SupermaN is bottom right, while the brown KaaZ is bottom left. KaaZ is doing extractor and spawning pool when SupermaN goes for a new hatchery. But this doesn't matter much after 5 minutes in, both have one lair, one hatchery and a drone morphing to a Spire.

kaazvssuperman2.jpgThis game turns in to a classic Zerg versus Zerg game, where it's all about strategy and counter attacks. This matchup is loved by few, hated by many. And that's basically what this game is about; muta harass, zergling counters and scourges sacrificing themselves for the greater good. A quite successful attack was made by KaaZ, killing off all of Superman's drones. This punch in the stomach gives KaaZ an advantage in economy, even though he doesn't have many drones on his own.

SupermaN now relies on zerglings, while KaaZ keeps on building Mutalisks. As we all know, zerglings can't jump that high, so KaaZ's air can quite easily take care of the former 'Kal El'. GG both!

Sweden 4-1 Denmark
Dealer[SWE]/KaaZ[SWE] vs. Nazarene[DnK]/S[D]ME[N]AG[K]O[DnK]Players: Sweden Dealer[SWE], Sweden KaaZ[SWE], Denmark Nazarene[DnK], Denmark Smeagol
Map(s): The Lost Temple

dealkzvsnazaag1.jpgThe first 2on2-game starred three Zerg players and one Terran. Dealer and KaaZ were at '3 and '6, while Smeagol was '9 and Nazarene '12. Dealer and KaaZ decide to take out their Zerg opponent - and do constant attacks with their wave of zerglings. Leaving Nazarene's Extractor for observing, the two vikings now focus on the Terran. Smeagol has by now three barracks pumping out marines and medics, trying to counter Dealer and Kaaz's Zerglings. With the ability to tech, KaaZ goes mutas and Dealer goes lurkers. And without any problem, the two Swedish Zergs basically rape the Danish Terran. 1-0!

Neither of the players I have contacted has the middle game, but Denmark won the game. Now the score is 1-1.

This third game is just as the former ones, at Lost Temple, where Dealer and KaaZ are up against Smeagol and Nazarene. Due to an early attack from the red and white Smeagol and Nazarene, KaaZ almost got screwed. But thanks to his well placed sunkens and some drone micro, he manages to maintain his main in shack.
After this attack, Dealer with his newly built vultures, along with KaaZ's remaining Zerglings, en route to Smeagol's base, lacking of defense. Smeagol leaves the game, but Nazarene hangs on. Nazarene has some mutalisks, but thanks to Dealer's goliaths and marines, along with KaaZ's scourges, they finally win the game. This game was really close, and Nazarene had a good chance on winning a 1vs2. 2-1 to the Swedes!
