With the recent discovery that quite of few of Brood Wars top players hack there have been measures to stop hackers in the future. Here is a quick rundown on whats come about in the past few weeks.
A TeamLiquid.net user named flag discovered a new method for discovering hackers in the ending days of the TSL ladder stage. Many names came out after a lot of reviewing replays and analyzing Brood War Charts statistics. Due to their efforts the TSL and future ladders were thinned a few more hackers.
The method was rather tedious and since then GnarTheDwarf has written a program that automatically analyzes replays, iCafe.moto has created another program that wires maps against hackers, and iCCup will be updating to take out future versions of Oblivion and other hacks.
Motos Maps
iCafe.moto recently found himself with a little extra time on hand and decided to add coding into maps to combat the hacking epidemic. He says in his forum post that he has created a way to detect if a player is hacking by monitoring the hackers RAM usage. When a hacker is discovered he is immediately dropped from the game thus preventing any sort of foul play.
He has imported the triggers into Python, Tau Cross, Luna, Longinus and Blue Storm and plans to do more. All five of those maps are available Here for your enjoyment. Yet another punch in the fight against hackers and abusers of Brodd war.
GnarTheDwarf Analyzes Your Replays for You!
With this program you can easily search an entire folder in your replay collection with just a few clicks, eliminating hours of work. Every replays is searched in the specified folder and if any are found to have no suspicious actions then they appear. These replays must also be over twelve minutes long to allow for games where selections are less likely.
When the search is done it will provide a list of names some green, some yellow and some red. Green signifies no hack possibility while yellow shows some replays with the hacking signature and red is a definite hacker. After that you can select each player and look at all the replays that are suspected of hacking in BWChart. That program is available for download as well Here.
One Small Step...
In a uphill battle that never seems to end there seems to be some sort of help along the way. Now the community can analyze replays even faster while hopefully implementing non hack maps into future map packs. Along with Anti-Hack Launchers it comes up to a pretty sweet arsenal against the hackers out there.
