Another Witcher story is taking shape as Sapkowski gives readers the clearest timeline yet for his next Geralt novel.
Andrzej Sapkowski, author and creator of the fantasy series The Witcher that inspired CD Projekt RED's hugely popular series of video games as well as a Netflix adaptation, has revealed that he could finish his next book in the series by the end of 2027.
As first reported by Polish gaming outlet GRYOnline.pl and popular Witcher fan page Wiedźminlandia, Sapkowski shared the update during the Copernicon 2026 fantasy festival in Toruń. The author reportedly described the end of 2027 as the point by which the book should theoretically be finished, although that timeline could still change.

Details remain scarce, but Geralt will once again be at the centre of the story. Sapkowski did not reveal when in the Witcher's life the book will take place, leaving open whether it could follow Crossroads of Ravens, his most recent novel, which explored an 18-year-old Geralt early in his career.

Sapkowski was also asked whether he would consider writing a book centred on another character, including Yennefer, but reportedly dismissed the idea, saying he saw no reason to do so. His next Witcher book will instead continue to focus on Geralt.
A post circulating on X also claimed that Sapkowski's next novel would be “based on” CD Projekt RED's Witcher games. However, GRYOnline.pl's report contains no suggestion that the book will be based on the games. Instead, the line appears to be playing on a long-running fandom joke about the books being “based on the hit video game”, which Witcher communities have been poking fun at for years.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt RED is keeping the Witcher franchise busy on the games side. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches on 29 September as a free upgrade for existing owners, while its third expansion, Songs of the Past, is set for 2027. The Witcher 4 is also in development, with CD Projekt RED targeting a 2028 release window.
