Typhoon Dujuan levelled up from a tropical storm, fast approaching Japan.
Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2026 will be shortened from a five-day event to a four-day event due to Typhoon Dujuan approaching the coast of Japan. Initially scheduled to run from the 17 to 21 September, 2026 in a first-ever five-day show for the event, the organisers have decided to cut TGS 2026 short and end on 20 September due to the natural disaster fast approaching the coasts of the country.
Although forecasts are predicting that the typhoon will not hit the country directly, the organisers are “taking the safety of all attendees, exhibitors, staff, and other parties involved as their highest priority”, in an email sent out to GosuGamers regarding the cancellation of TGS 2026's last day.
"We sincerely apologize for this last-minute notice and for the significant inconvenience this may cause to members of
the media who have been preparing to cover the event," the organisers added.
TGS is usually separated into business days and public days, with two days allocated for each, respectively. This year was the first year that the public days were planned to be extended to three days due to the 21st being a public holiday (Respect for the Aged Day) in Japan. Sadly, mother nature had other plans.
GosuGamers was at Makuhari Messe for both business days on the 17th and 18th. A gale adversity warning was issued for Chiba on opening day, though the rain that had been forecasted never arrived.
