PUBG: Black Budget, the extraction shooter spin-off, has been cancelled.
Publisher Krafton has cancelled development of PUBG: Black Budget, the intended extraction shooter spin-off of PUBG: Battlegrounds. The publisher announced the news on Black Budget’s Steam store page, noting that the game’s “current direction would not allow us to deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term.”
PUBG: Black Budget has officially been cancelled
Krafton is pulling out of development on PUBG: Black Budget, following an internal review of the project at the company. The publisher posted a statement on the game’s store page:
“After reviewing the project’s development status and future direction, we concluded that its current direction would not allow us to deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term. We have therefore made the difficult decision to end development of PUBG: Black Budget.
We sincerely thank everyone who took the time to participate in our Closed Alpha tests and share their feedback. PUBG STUDIOS will carry what we learned from development and testing into future projects, continuing to listen to players as we explore new gameplay experiences. Thank you.”
PUBG: Black Budget was originally revealed back in November 2025, as an extraction shooter spinning out of the PUBG franchise. It would have followed Contractors hired to carry out a classified operation on a mysterious island, which just so happens to be trapped within a time loop. Despite the time loop, players would be tasked with infiltrating the island’s research facility and recovering top-secret technology.
PUBG: Black Budget was set to be a first-person shooter with PvPvE combat, with players working both with and against each other, while fending off the island’s other threats. Krafton noted that despite the game’s cancellation, the publisher will carry “what we learned from development” into its future projects.
Another PUBG spin-off entitled PUBG: Blindspot was also cancelled earlier this year. The game was set to be a 5v5 top-down shooter. A new PUBG spin-off, PUBG: Ded.Net, was only recently announced at Gamescom 2026 as a multiplayer roguelite shooter.
