GosuCrew Interview: marCoon

It's been a while since the last GosuCrew interview, but now it's back, and our Event team leader, marCoon, is sharing his story with us.

He's a Starcraft player who's still going to school and hopes to finish it by next year. He's a lazy person who gets out of bed around 2 pm after a long night at the club. Before he turned 18 he was playing tennis professionally, and was in the quarterfinals of the regional championship twice. He is Marko "marCoon" Karacic, and is the Event Team leader of GosuGamers.

How do you spend your weekends?
I mostly hang out with my friends, go to clubs and have fun. Clubbing for me means staying until the end, so I usually get home at 6-7 am in the morning. This is when I usually watch proleague, OSL, MSL, lying drunk in my bed and trying to fall asleep.

For how long have you been playing Starcraft?
I can't actually remember when I started playing online, but it started out when I was on a sleepover at my friend's house around December 2000. We played some games, and I continued playing the campaign and went on to playing on LANs with my friends.

How are your Starcraft skills? Race? Any favorite units?
I don't play Starcraft that much anymore, so my skills aren't that great nowadays. I started out as a Protoss player, but I switched to Terran after a few weeks after seeing games of the almighty Boxer. My favorite unit must be the Vulture. It's the unit I use the most because I like TvP, and as I am more of a micro person, I love to harass a lot, and for that, the Vulture is the perfect unit. It's fast, it's cheap, and it kills units such as the Templars and Zealots pretty easy.

My ICCup rank these days is around C- / C at 1v1, but with some training I could get higher again. I used to be B- at PGTour at 1v1, and B at 2v2 playing with my teammates from CLF (Cool Little F**ers), and we had some good 2v2 players there, so we played 2v2 a lot. It was probably the most awesome clan I've ever been in.

Who is your favorite progamer?
I remember watching ODT in 2007, and I had already seen some games of Hwasin. At that day I watched it with Infernal, who's probably my longest lasting friendship. Hwasin played against Savior, this was the time when Savior was at his prime, the unbeatable monsterous zerg. No one believed Hwasin could win, but he did in an epic game on Longinus, being probably the only Terran who could beat Savior at that time. I've been a huge Hwasin fan ever since.

Tell us about your job at GosuGamers
Since I'm the Event Team leader, everything that has to do with events at GosuGamers goes through me, including Starcraft, Warcraft 3 and DotA. I have a team of dedicated admins who handles those events, and helps me come up with ideas for the site. Organize and administrate the events, getting the players, getting it streamed, and getting some good commentators is a few of my tasks.
I'm also the connection between the Head Administration and my team. But that's usually when it comes to sponsoring events, since everyone in the GosuCrew talks to eachother all the time despite their "ranks" in the crew, and is more like a family really.

I'm also the guy who gets all the complains, which is not the best part of my job, but it's important so we always can improve ourselves.

For Starcraft it's me and Warrior-350- who does most the job, and ereskigal for the DotA and Warcraft 3 section partly with Stealthunter and wiz. The rest of the team is only supposed to come to the events and help out managing them when it's needed. And if you ever wondered who's streaming the games, that's me. Warrior-350- and ostojiy does the commentary along with Andre "Gretorp" Hengchua and Paul "Aerials" Stavropoulos who's not actually crewmembers of GosuGamers.

What keeps you motivated to support the community?
Playing such an awesome game for nearly a decade, I decided to give something back, so one and a half year ago I decided I wanted to be an admin here to serve the community with the love this game has given me.

I want to share my love for the game with the community

What is your best memory from GosuGamers?
It must be the time when I joined the crew. We always hung out playing some fun games, watching replays together and chatting on IRC for hours. Nowadays we don't have that sparetime anymore, as we're all growing up and getting other stuff going on in our lives. But as I mentioned, we're a great family.

Last but not least, shoutouts?
Shoutouts goes to cYaN and Vilda for being there when we started the event thing and GosuCup, and just being two very cool people to work with. Also to Darryl, aka Warrior-350-, who's my right hand, and helps me out a lot to get things going, ostojiy and ofcourse my whole event team, and the rest of the GosuCrew. I'd also like to give a shoutout to Aerials and Gretorp for the commentating they do for us, and to Infernal, Gan, Delphi, kAra, darky, Ace, Juan, dOTY and all the other German guys I know and hang out with. And to the Ares Clan, Osb, SpeeD, sepirose, SaTurN, dArk.T, S2000 and everyone else. I'd also like to give a shoutout to the sexiest Korean alive, Kyopo ^^ and the BoB clan.
And also thanks to poGDI and Raistlin for supporting me, my ideas, and helping me out when they can.
