Was the latest hero revealed via data mining?

This trace bit of code was discovered by data-mining theSamuro PTR patch. Who is Reaper? Who is Firebat?

Curious data-miners are responsible for a lot of early leaks in gaming and it looks like Heroes of the Storm developers might be wary of this. Check out the bit of data that was posted earlier this week-- it is the work of data-mining the latest PTR patch:

Notice Reaper.StormMod and FIrebat.Storm mod? It appears that these .StormMod files are associated with heroes and the only two names that aren't accounted are, indeed, Reaper and Firebat.

Are these purposefully vague descriptions to avoid spoiling? Reaper, as it turns out, is a popular turn of phrase among Blizzard titles:

  1. It could either be referring to the Overwatch hero, Reaper, who wields shotguns and a bad attitude
  2. It could be referring to the Starcraft II Terran unit called Reapers. Highly mobile flankers with pistols and jetpacks.
  3. Or lastly, it could be referring to the Reaper of Souls from the Diablo 3 universe, Malthael.

Also revealed recently, was this supposed voice track that was also found by data-mining the Samuro patch. If this is accurate, then it is another hint that the Reaper in question is certainly Malthael.

And then there is Firebat. Firebat is most likely the Starcraft unit of the same name (the mercenary from Machines of War is a Hellbat--very different). No new hints can confirm the presence of this hero, but when it comes around, you can bet the speculation train will arrive on schedule.
