Control Resonant’s new update adds "New Game ++" and reduces Unknown Zone combat

Remedy's latest patch gives completionists a reason to keep looping long after the credits roll.

A sizeable new Control Resonant update has arrived with infinite New Game+ runs, less combat in the Unknown Zone, several quality-of-life improvements, and a long list of fixes across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Control Resonant Game Update 1.4.0 was announced on Thursday (1 October). Remedy said it has been pleased with the game's overall stability and technical performance since launch, but having more people playing has also made it easier to spot what still needs attention.

"Many things are much easier to see now that so many people are playing," the developer said. This was how the team was able to focus on what could be improved.

Release Date: 24 September, 2026

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Mac

Developer: Remedy Entertainment

What does Control Resonant update 1.4.0 add?

The headline addition is New Game ++, which removes the limit on how many times a completed save can be carried into another run. Those who want to keep looping through Control Resonant can now do so indefinitely.

Several smaller changes are also aimed at cutting down on menu diving and unnecessary trips around the map. Build Power is now displayed directly on the Loadout screen, while the HUD will show whether there are new items to buy or upgrade in The Gap. Pinned upgrade materials can also be checked against Vendor stock through the Vendor icon on the map, instead of requiring a trip to the shop just to see whether the needed material is available.

Audio gets some extra controls too, including a separate slider for radio dialogue and an option to mute Apocalyptica's "Upperhand" during the intro credits for streamers and others concerned about copyrighted music. Assist Mode has meanwhile gained a Power Core Charge Duration option, allowing a 100% to 300% duration multiplier.

Control Resonant Unknown Zone combat has been reduced

Those who found the Unknown Zone a little too eager to throw enemies at Dylan should notice a difference after the update. The overall amount and intensity of combat in the area has been reduced by around 10% to 15%, giving a little more breathing room between encounters.

Other combat tweaks include making the Firebreak employee in The Park stronger, slightly increasing Sunder's lifetime, making forklift enemies easier to hit, and adjusting how minibosses and heavy enemies react to Push. A problem with the Co-Director Resonant fight has also been fixed after triggering a Perfect Dodge against most of the boss's attacks was, in Remedy's words, "nigh-on impossible."

Progression has received some attention as well, with rewards adjusted to make it easier to fully max out every Zone in New Game+.

What performance and bug fixes are in Control Resonant update 1.4.0?

On the technical side, update 1.4.0 includes several performance optimisations aimed primarily at PCs meeting Control Resonant's minimum and recommended specifications, alongside crash fixes across all platforms. HDR fixes address over-saturated highlights and aggressive pixelation, while crashes caused by switching between ray tracing modes have also been tackled.

DLSS Frame Generation now better accounts for motion blur shutter speed, and V-Sync can be used alongside DLSS Frame Generation. Steam Input users should also find controllers reconnecting properly after losing their connection, while several ultrawide issues have been fixed. AMD Radeon users have another potential performance boost outside the patch itself, with Remedy pointing towards new optional AMD drivers that it says improve performance and address several crashes.

Elsewhere, the patch tackles everything from map markers refusing to disappear and audio desyncing to quests failing to progress, incorrect vendor prices, broken subtitles, pop-in, lighting problems, and enemies falling through the world.

There are some very Control-specific fixes buried in there too. A floating microphone in "The Party Won't Stop" should finally behave itself, while a particularly grim New Game+ bug will no longer have Zoe congratulate Dylan for rescuing the partygoers when, as Remedy notes, "everyone [is] dead."

Control Resonant update 1.4.0 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
