CD Projekt RED has confirmed additional details for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s third expansion.
CD Projekt RED and Fool’s Theory held streams all day long at Gamescom 2026 today (26 August) to dive into more details for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s unexpected third expansion, Songs of the Past. In these streams, the expansion’s developers confirmed that the expansion will be set in Letten, a land belonging to Dandelion’s family.

What region is The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past set in?
During a series of REDstreams held today at Gamescom 2026, CD Projekt RED and Fool’s Gold shared more information on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Songs of the Past, following the expansion’s first trailer launch at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Here’s the developer’s official description of the expansion:
“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt–Songs of the Past is an upcoming expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD PROJEKT RED and Fool's Theory. Players will once again take on the role of Geralt of Rivia and journey to the brand new region of Letten–a seemingly idyllic land that hides a dark secret beneath its peaceful surface. Equipped with new abilities and a new weapon, the chain, Geralt will face never-before-seen foes, reunite with old friends, and embark on a gripping adventure filled with difficult decisions and meaningful consequences.”
In addition to the above synopsis, we also learned that the upcoming expansion will feature deep ties to Dandelion, Geralt’s longtime friend and bard. Songs of the Past will take players to the region of Letten, the birthplace of Dandelion. The specific location of Letten within the Continent was also outlined during the stream: it’s located between Kaedwen and Kovir. Kovir serves as the central location of The Witcher IV.
A developer noted: “If you go to the Gulf of Praxeda and take the Buina river to the east and take a ride on the Nimnar river, on the other southern shore of the Nimnar you will find this lovely place, Letten.” In short, it’s in the north of the map.
A few snippets of gameplay were also shown, showcasing the region of Letten which Geralt explores both on horseback or on foot. Dandelion’s majestic family home was also shown, via early concept art for the region.
It looks like Dandelion fans will have their appetites sated in this upcoming expansion, which is set after the events of the main campaign. A female character named Lilla was also shown off in night-time-set gameplay, where Geralt accompanies Lilla on a quest to find a mysterious gate.
During the stream, CD Projekt RED also confirmed that there will be some form of additional romance for Geralt in this expansion–though whether or not he’ll be able to woo Lilla or characters from the base game, like Yennefer and Triss, remains to be seen.
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Songs of the Past launches in 2027. A remaster of the base game is also coming later this year.
