The moustache survived. The scalp, apparently, did not.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s closed beta weekend went viral for one of the most hilarious reasons possible: Captain Price’s absolutely botched haircut.
Captain Price is known for his full head of hair, but screenshots circulating from the beta showed a very different man. His hair had thinned into something closer to a sparse grassland desperately waiting for rain, or a hairline in urgent need of minoxidil.
Thankfully for Price, this does not appear to be a dramatic new direction for the character. The poorly rendered hair only appears when Modern Warfare 4 is running at its lowest level of detail, which explains why not everyone encountered his unexpected balding phase.

Why Captain Price's hair looks so bad in the Modern Warfare 4 beta
Activision and Infinity Ward have since acknowledged that Price’s unfortunate trim is a genuine graphical issue rather than an intentional character redesign. “Captain Price's hair does not appear correctly when viewing his character model at the lowest level of detail,” the developers wrote in the “Known Issues” section of the Modern Warfare 4 Trello board.
The Call of Duty community team also responded directly to some of the screenshots making the rounds on X, confirming that the developers are working on a fix.
“Hello! We're aware of an issue with Price's hair not appearing correctly when viewed at the lowest level of detail,” the account said. “The team will be addressing it in a future update.”
However, the devs also noted that the problem should not appear if players meet Modern Warfare 4’s recommended PC specifications.
Naturally, players had plenty to say once the low-detail version of Price started circulating. “What in the 1050 TI is this?” X user The Natty One joked. “Whoever took that screenshot got the game at ultra low, ultra performance, 11% resolution.”
So while Price’s rapidly disappearing hair is real, it appears to be less of a haircut problem and more of what happens when his follicles are forced to survive on the lowest graphical settings available.
Modern Warfare 4 beta known bugs and issues
Price’s struggling scalp is far from the only problem Infinity Ward is tracking during the Modern Warfare 4 beta. The game's Trello board currently lists several other known issues, including Quick Draw attachments potentially causing frame rate drops while aiming down sights. Players using Toggle ADS may also find that pressing Sprint or Melee does not pull them out of ADS as intended.
PC players, meanwhile, may encounter hitching during their first match. Recording software including NVIDIA ShadowPlay can also cause hitching on some systems.
Several problems, however, have already been resolved during the beta. These include frame rate drops while cooking lethal weapons and a bug that could leave players stuck on the loadout screen.
Anyone who had a rough time during the closed beta will have another chance when the Modern Warfare 4 open beta launches this weekend. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on 23 October, 2026 for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Hopefully, Captain Price's full head of hair in all its glory will be restored by then.
