Is Capcom making a Resident Evil Code Veronica remake?
The answer to the above question is an unequivocal yes, at long last! Capcom is officially remaking 2000’s Resident Evil Code: Veronica, which originally launched on the Sega Dreamcast. The original game followed returning Resident Evil 2 protagonist Claire Redfield, who is searching for her brother Chris at a remote prison island in the Southern Ocean, as well as a research facility in Antarctica.
Capcom hasn’t provided further details on the remake, but we do know that it’s going to be a full-fledged overhaul of the original game with modern-gen visuals. We also got a brief glimpse of a more weathered Claire Redfield, who closely resembles Capcom’s design of the character from Netflix’s Resident Evil Infinite Darkness miniseries.
The game’s first trailer was revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026’s live kickoff, following Claire in first-person as she explored an abandoned apartment looking for her brother. Later on, she heads into spooky prison islands and research facilities–all telling signs of a Code Veronica remake.
The original game’s two other playable characters, Chris Redfield and Steve Burnside, were not directly confirmed in this trailer–but it’s likely that Capcom is saving them for a later reveal. Also set for a return is franchise baddie Albert Wesker, who plays a big role in shaping the 2000 game’s events.
Resident Evil Veronica does not have a release date yet.
