There are a lot of things FFVII fans can look forward to.
Final Fantasy VII fans finally have a date for the end of the Remake trilogy. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch for PlayStation 5 on 8 April 2027, with Square Enix also revealing a much closer look at how Cloud and the party's final journey will play.
The release date and new gameplay were revealed during the PlayStation State of Play on Thursday (3 September), with Square Enix sharing more details during State of Play Japan later the same day. The developer also outlined the new gameplay systems, editions, and pre-order bonuses in a PlayStation Blog post.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation follows Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as the final entry in Square Enix's reimagining of the original Final Fantasy VII story. Alongside another look at the party's journey, the latest footage introduced several new systems covering exploration, combat, quests, and Queen's Blood.
Square Enix also released an extended gameplay video showing some of the new features in action.

When does Final Fantasy VII Revelation release?
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will release for PlayStation 5 on 8 April, 2027. Square Enix has also announced physical editions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, while digital editions are listed for PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Physical and digital pre-orders are available now, although digital Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will open at a later date.
What new gameplay features are in Final Fantasy VII Revelation?
One of the biggest additions is the Highwind, which players can use to travel across Revelation's open world. Piko will also return as the party's chocobo companion, although this time the trusty mount can fight alongside the party and grow stronger throughout the game, gaining additional abilities for both traversal and combat.
Combat is also expanding through the new Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear system, shortened to FITS. Characters can equip different uniforms that change both their appearance and available moves, with four FITS currently revealed: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner.
Revelation will also introduce dynamic character switching outside combat, allowing players to instantly swap between party members while exploring. A new grappling gun adds another traversal option, letting characters scale rooftops and move around city environments more quickly.
Quest choices are getting some changes too. Players will be able to choose which party member takes on certain quests, with those decisions affecting how specific story events and gameplay scenarios unfold.
Queen's Blood is also returning after its introduction in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. This time, the card game will feature a new storyline centred on Red XIII, along with new opponents and mechanics designed to shake up how matches play out.
What will the Final Fantasy VII DLCs be about?
There will also be two planned DLCs which will be focusing on two different stories:
- Story DLC 1: Sephiroth
- Story DLC 2: Vincent and the Turks
No further details on the pricing and release date has been revealed. However, it was confirmed that players can access these through a paid “Story Expansion Pass”, which is also going to be bundled into Revelation's more expensive Premium Edition.
Do Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth saves give bonuses in Revelation?
Players with save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the same console or PC will unlock extra items in Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

Both games include a Streamlined Progression feature with options such as unlimited HP and MP, a permanently full ATB gauge, and easier weapon ability acquisition, giving players a faster way through the first two parts of the trilogy before Revelation arrives.

Square Enix is also offering a digital Final Fantasy VII Remake Series Trilogy Edition for US$84.99. Pre-ordering the bundle gives players immediate access to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, with Final Fantasy VII Revelation added when it launches. The Trilogy Edition also includes the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia pre-order bonus for Revelation.
