Moderately increase velocity when positioned toward the front with about 300m remaining. If coming out of an uphill, greatly increase velocity instead.
Ines Fujin is a Front Runner specialised for Mile and Medium-length tracks, though you can also run her in Long races with the right Sparks thanks to her C Aptitude in that distance. While she does lean more towards being a pure Front Runner, she can also be run as a Pace Chaser with minimal investment thanks to her B Aptitude in that running style.
Ines Fujin's unique skill is really strong in tracks where the uphill comes right before the home stretch, such as the Tokyo Racetrack that hosts the Japanese Derby that her real-life basis won. Her innate skills lean further into this, namely the Tokyo Racecourse green skill, as well as Moxie and its gold version Restless.
She can also learn Slipstream, With All My Soul, Speed Eater, Playtime's Over!, Dodging Danger, Early Lead, and Front Runner Straightaways. With All My Soul, Wild Wind, Playtime's Over!, and her 15% growth bonus for Guts notably help Ines Fujin in the mid-race battles with other Front Runners.
You will notice Ines Fujin's lack of an innate access to Groundwork, Front Runner Savvy, and other strong Front Runner skills. So you will need to have the right Legacies or Support Cards to make Ines Fujin at the very least competitive against the likes of Valentine's Mihono Bourbon, who is hands-down the best Front Runner in the game right now, and in the foreseeable future thanks to her strong unique skill and innate access to the must-have Front Runner skills.
Not only that, Ines Fujin's overall kit is much less versatile compared to the aforementioned Valentine's Mihono Bourbon, Summer Maruzensky, Silence Suzuka, and others. If you're racing in Tokyo and other similar tracks, then Ines Fujin is very much capable of beating those meta Front Runners. We can't say the same for most other tracks, however, unless you heavily invest into getting the appropriate Legacies and Support Cards. Even then, you'd only make her competitive against her top competitors.
If you're a fan of any particular uma, then any Carats you spend will be very much worth it just to get them. Some just don't bring as much bang for your buck than others, especially those specialised into specific tracks. Ines Fujin falls squarely into that category of track specialists, which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. With that said, if you're running in the Japanese Derby, or in other races on Tokyo and other similar courses, Ines Fujin will get you over that hill.
