From cousin to "or something".
Street Fighter 6 has quietly pushed a dialogue change in its latest update, and it lands right on one of the game’s most controversial bits of lore. A recent patch tweaks Alex’s World Tour dialogue, following player backlash over a storyline involving his relationship with Patricia that raised eyebrows for its incest implications.
Which lines from Alex’s storyline did Capcom change in Street Fighter 6?
The update targets a specific line about Patricia’s father, Tom. Originally, the game spelled it out pretty clearly: “He’s a cousin of my mom and was a sparring buddy of my dad.” Post-patch, that same line now reads: “He’s a distant relative of my mom or something, and was a sparring buddy of my dad.”
What was once a defined family link, is now a distant relative “or something.” It almost seems like the relationship hasn’t been removed at all; instead, it’s made noticeably vaguer.
Capcom had previously said it would “revise certain text passages that may have been misleading,” and this falls squarely into that category.
Why are players calling out Alex’s story in Street Fighter 6?
The issue traces back to Alex’s arcade mode ending in Street Fighter 6. In it, he marries Patricia, even though their relationship had previously been framed as a sibling-like dynamic. The two are revealed to be expecting a child.

That reveal, paired with dialogue showing a pregnant Patricia welcoming him home, sparked immediate questions from players familiar with their history. For many players, it clashed with how the characters had been set up in earlier games, making it a mostly an unwelcome revelation.
On 27 March, director Takayuki Nakayama responded on X (formerly Twitter), apologising for “confusion” and confirming that any fixes would focus on text rather than changing the actual story.
With changes this minor, it’s pretty clear that Capcom isn’t walking this storyline back. Alex and Patricia's relationship is staying canon. The game’s just a little less direct about how they’re related now.
