A fresh update lands in Crimson Desert with tougher fights, smarter systems, and a world that reacts a bit more to how you play.
Combat takes a sharper turn in Crimson Desert, as the latest update from Pearl Abyss rolls out across platforms. Announced on 23 April 2026 (UTC) through a post on the official website, Patch 1.04.00 introduces long-requested difficulty options alongside sweeping changes to housing, pets, combat flow, and overall quality of life.
The update is already live on Steam (PC), PlayStation, Xbox, and Epic Games Store, while Mac versions are still in progress.
How do the new difficulty settings change combat in Crimson Desert?
The biggest addition is the new difficulty system, which reshapes combat pacing and challenge. Players can now choose between Easy, Normal, and Hard, with the latter designed for “more intense and thrilling combat.”
Hard mode introduces stricter timing and harsher enemy behaviour, including:
- Increased enemy health, speed, and aggression
- Reduced parry and dodge windows
- More frequent boss counterattacks and escape attempts
- Additional combat patterns for certain bosses
Meanwhile, Easy mode reduces incoming damage and slows enemies, while also extending defensive timing windows.
The developer also confirmed that a boss rematch feature will be added soon, allowing players to revisit encounters on demand.
Crimson Desert housing and storage changes in Patch 1.04.00
Storage and housing systems see one of the largest upgrades in this patch, with multiple new items and expanded functionality.
Notable additions include:
- Sturdy Gatherables Chest (1,000 slots) for materials
- Collectibles Chest (1,000 slots) for quest items and recipes
- Kuku Coolers for food storage (40 to 330 slots)
- Wardrobe system supporting up to 1,000 outfit slots
Materials and ingredients stored in these containers can now be used directly for crafting and cooking without being carried.
Housing also expands with selectable layouts:
- Compact, Standard, Spacious, and Spacious Pailunese House
UI improvements allow players to retrieve all placed furniture at once, and navigate housing controls more efficiently.
What’s new with pets in Crimson Desert after the latest patch?
Patch 1.04.00 significantly expands companion systems with new pets and mechanics.
Birds are now available as companions, featuring a Trust system tied to feeding via the Sotdae of Bond. Players can place food to build affinity and unlock interactions.
Other additions include:
- Five new cat variants
- The Abyss Heuklang becoming a usable pet
- Pet renaming functionality
- A new pet accessory slot, enabling expanded roles
A new item, the Sigil of Bonding, allows cats to remain on the player’s shoulder for longer durations.
Crimson Desert combat updates and new skills in Patch 1.04.00
Combat adjustments focus on consistency and responsiveness. Bosses are no longer immune during powerful attacks, while their counter and escape behaviour has been rebalanced.
Several skills have been added or improved:
- Kliff gains Weapon Throw
- Damiane and Oongka receive Ambush
- Force Palm now features three charge stages with scaling damage
Additional updates improve attack chaining, weapon flow for spears and longswords, and interaction speed during puzzles and item examination. Elemental status damage has increased, while environmental damage from objects has been slightly reduced.
Crimson Desert controls, UI, and inventory improvements explained
The patch introduces new control presets for keyboard/mouse and controllers, alongside expanded customisation options. Features like immediate interaction inputs and adjustable evasion controls aim to streamline gameplay.
Inventory management has also been reworked:
- New category tabs (Equipment, Food, Materials, etc.)
- Persistent sorting preferences
- Improved icon grouping
Map updates include search and filter tools, custom markers, and visibility of shop stock when maximum trust is reached.
Graphics, world updates, and accessibility changes in Crimson Desert
Visual improvements focus on clarity and distance rendering, with enhancements to textures, character detail, and lighting. Accessibility options such as colourblind mode, photosensitive mode, and subtitle scaling have also been added.
The world itself sees smaller additions, including:
- Livestock vendors selling animals like cows, pigs, and ducks
- Additional ores and wells across regions
- Improved NPC reactions and behaviours
- Environmental details such as tumbleweeds in desert areas
Economy tweaks and bug fixes in Crimson Desert Patch 1.04.00
NPC goods are now available at a 10% discount, while equipment reinforcement values have been reduced for balance. More items can now stack in inventory, reducing clutter.
The patch also addresses a wide range of issues, including crashes, quest progression bugs, mount behaviour, and HDR-related problems across platforms.
Patch 1.04.00 sets up broader system changes across Crimson Desert, with difficulty scaling, expanded storage, and combat adjustments forming the core of this update as further features, including boss rematches, are expected to follow.
