PEAK's Play It Your Way update adds custom runs, mini runs, campfire autosaves, and more

Remove winds, remove tornados, remove everything!

Aggro Crab and Landfall have rolled out a fresh update for the popular co-op climbing game PEAK, giving players more control over how each expedition plays out, alongside new ways for them to jump in for shorter sessions or pick up where they left off.

Announced alongside a new trailer for Play It Your Way, the update is now live and introduces a suite of features aimed at flexibility, accessibility, and short session-friendly gameplay.

PEAK

Release Date: 16 June, 2025

Platforms: PC via Steam, Steam Deck

Developer: Aggro Crab, Landfall Games

What is included in the PEAK: Play It Your Way update?

The headlining addition is the new Custom Runs system, which opens up a wide range of modifiers that let players finetune their climb. According to the developers, “you can now modify all sorts of things about your run,” including difficulty settings, gameplay hazards, and item spawns.

These options are accessed through the Boarding Kiosk in the Airport, with the developers noting there are “a few fun surprises” already included, with more planned in future updates. Achievements are disabled while Custom Runs are active.

Alongside this, Mini Runs have been introduced as part of the same system. These allow players to tackle a single biome from the current daily map, offering a quicker alternative to full-length expeditions. The mode is positioned for shorter play sessions, especially for those who may not have time to commit to a full run.

How do campfire autosaves work in PEAK?

Another major addition is campfire autosaves, giving players a way to pause and return to an expedition later. The developers confirmed they have “finally cracked the code,” allowing progress to be saved at the most recent campfire.

This autosave persists until the run ends, whether through victory, failure, or starting a new expedition. However, there is a limitation: if a game update removes the map tied to that save, progress will be erased.

The update also introduces Chill Campfires, letting players remain at campfires indefinitely without hunger increasing or fog progressing. Campfires will stay active until all scouts leave the area.

Additional features and accessibility changes in PEAK's new update

The update also adds Zombie Phobia Mode, offering an alternative visual design for mushroom-based enemies in the Roots biome. This option is designed for players uncomfortable with the existing enemy aesthetic, with developers stating they are open to feedback on accessibility features. Players can also remove these enemies entirely through Custom Run settings, or by selecting Tenderfoot difficulty.

Bug fixes and balance changes in PEAK's new update

A range of fixes and tweaks have been implemented as part of the patch. Achievements tied to single runs will now retain progress if a player disconnects and reconnects. Issues with rope shooters causing erratic behaviour, including control lockouts and unintended launches have been resolved.

Other fixes include scouts failing to revive after reconnecting, incorrect endgame reports, and UI elements like audio sliders and kick options not appearing immediately. Spawn issues affecting Player 3 and Player 4 have also been addressed. Balance-wise, the Rescue Hook now leaves players in a ragdoll state for a shorter duration, making it more reliable during climbs.

PEAK is available on PC via Steam.
