Stamina low? Time to snack… on your teammates.
The adorable yet unhinged survival hit Peak just got a grisly twist. Developer Aggro Crab’s latest update for the Steam viral sensation has introduced one simple, game-changing mechanic: cannibalism.
Version 1.10.a landed with a suspiciously cheerful note: “Totally normal update.” Buried beneath it is a single, deadpan addition: “Added cannibalism.”
In Peak, players try to survive a chaotic summer camp-gone-wrong scenario on a remote island, managing stamina by finding food and avoiding faceplants off cliffs.
But now, when your hunger reaches a critical point, your character starts hallucinating other players as juicy rotisserie chickens. A few seconds of holding the eat button is all it takes to turn a fellow camper into a skeleton… and refill your stamina bar to full.
Yes, your friend dies. Yes, you take all their loot. And no, there’s no way to do this gently.
Peak is the viral hit that just got weirder
Since launching in June, Peak has sold over one million copies on Steam in just six days, a staggering figure for an indie title with a deceptively cute aesthetic and a flair for chaos. And in less than a month since release, Peak had already sold 5 million copies.
Much of that momentum has come from its unpredictable gameplay, moments of betrayal, and the sheer absurdity of the island experience. Adding cannibalism might sound extreme, but it’s exactly the kind of wild-card mechanic that has fuelled the game’s explosive popularity.
To its credit, the update does also address a handful of persistent bugs. Players had reported dying from minor falls, especially when spamming the “lunge” button. That issue has now been patched, with devs sharing that apparently, wildflowers were somehow the culprit. Performance has also been improved, though Aggro Crab says it’s still tracking other reported issues.
Still, the main course here is undeniably the human meat buffet.
With Peak still in early access and no shortage of surprises, it’s clear the team aren’t afraid to take things to absurd new heights. But maybe the next time you play, keep one eye on your stamina bar… and the other on your so-called friends.
