Blizzard's top-down Overwatch hero shooter for mobile is almost here!
Overwatch Rush is finally getting into more players' hands, with Blizzard preparing to soft launch its top-down mobile spin-off in Southeast Asia. First announced in 2025, Overwatch Rush is not a mobile port of the main game. Instead, it reworks familiar Overwatch Heroes such as Mercy and Reaper for a top-down hero shooter built specifically for mobile platforms, with 4v4 PvP at its core.

Overwatch Rush soft launch release date and countries
According to a press release from Blizzard, Overwatch Rush will begin its soft launch in Indonesia on 31 August, with Malaysia and the Philippines following in the days after. Exact dates for the latter two countries have not been announced.
Until now, access has largely been limited to closed beta testing, so the soft launch will give a much wider group of players in the region their first chance to try the game.
The rollout will remain limited to Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines during this phase as Blizzard continues testing and optimising Overwatch Rush. The developer says it hopes to expand the game to more regions in future phases.
What Heroes are in Overwatch Rush?
The soft launch roster includes Tracer, Reinhardt, Soldier: 76, Reaper, Kiriko, Pharah, Mercy, and Lúcio, alongside a new hero addition: Brigitte.
Brigitte joins as a Vanguard, with her kit reworked around Overwatch Rush's top-down combat. She combines frontline durability with aggressive close-range fighting, while retaining the support role Overwatch players will recognise her for.
Lúcio has also been reworked following feedback from earlier testing. His abilities are now closer to his main Overwatch counterpart, with greater mobility around the battlefield and the ability to use both speed and healing boosts at the same time.
Players will also have more control over how they develop those Heroes through a new progression system.
How do Hero Levels work in Overwatch Rush?
Hero Levels allow players to earn progression currencies through gameplay and spend them on individual Heroes.
Rather than progressing the whole roster in the same way, players can choose which characters they want to level up and experiment with different loadouts as they go.
Optional purchases will also be available during soft launch. After completing the tutorial, players can buy a bundle containing the Epic Kingpin skin for Soldier: 76 and 2,000 Credits, while separate Credit bundles provide another way to advance Hero progression.
Blizzard says the bundles are entirely optional and stressed that its goal is for "player skill to remain the defining factor in every match."
What game modes and maps are in Overwatch Rush?
Alongside its 4v4 PvP, Overwatch Rush will offer two other team formats during soft launch. Duo Free for All is the game's first multi-team mode, placing three teams of two into the same match. With only one teammate and two opposing duos in play, the mode puts more emphasis on coordination between partners.
Meanwhile, 3v3 Control takes the familiar objective format and scales it down to three-player teams, with both sides fighting to take and hold control.
The soft launch will also feature three maps: Narwhal Cove in Gibraltar, Hydronet Gardens in Cairo, and Mansión Portero in Dorado. Although all three are rooted in existing Overwatch lore, Blizzard designed these maps specifically for Overwatch Rush, with layouts, landmarks, and gameplay opportunities built around its top-down perspective.
What gameplay features are in Overwatch Rush?
Blizzard has also made several changes based on feedback from earlier testing, particularly around controls, onboarding, and keeping track of teammates.
The tutorial has been redesigned to make the core mechanics easier to pick up, while an Aim Assist toggle gives players more control over how aiming works. A new "Group Up" ping gives teammates a quick way to rally during a match. Players will also be able to track allied health and Ultimate readiness, while off-screen indicators make it easier to see where teammates are when they move outside the visible battlefield.
Overwatch Rush Android and iOS system requirements
Players joining the Southeast Asia soft launch will need at least 3GB of RAM on both Android and iOS. For Android, the minimum requirements are:
- Android 8.0
- Snapdragon 720G, 765, 730*, 480*, 675*, or 845*
- MediaTek Dimensity 6XXX, 7XX, or 8XX series
- MediaTek Helio G9X, G8X*, or P90*
- Exynos 980, 1380, or 9810*
Some of the devices that would fit the bill include the Samsung A14 5G and Google Pixel 4a. For iOS, players will need:
- iOS 15
- 3GB RAM
- Apple Bionic A12 or better
The iPhone XS and second-generation iPhone SE are among the devices Blizzard lists as examples that meet the requirements.
Overwatch Rush will begin rolling out to players from 31 August, 2026, starting with Indonesia before heading to Malaysia and the Philippines in the days that follow.
