New project set in God of War universe reportedly in the works, starring Kratos' wife Faye

If reports are true, the franchise is said to focus on Faye, the wife of Kratos.

God of War fans could be gearing up for a fresh take on the franchise, with a former senior writer from Sony Santa Monica reportedly hinting at a brand-new project set within the series’ wider universe.

Screenshots from a now-deleted LinkedIn profile, which have been circulating online via Resetera, claim the studio is developing “a new franchise within the God of War universe”. If accurate, the listing suggests Sony Santa Monica is expanding beyond the core God of War games, potentially exploring new characters, stories, and gameplay ideas tied to the long-running IP.

The writer, who reportedly worked at the studio from 2020 until late 2024, stated that they “helped shape narrative visions and creative direction at Sony Santa Monica Studio for a franchise within the God of War universe, developing characters, storylines, and original lore that expanded the acclaimed IP”.

They added that their role involved “integrated story with gameplay and worldbuilding through scripts and narrative content, collaborating across disciplines to deliver emotionally driven experiences for a global audience,” while also contributing to the franchise’s long-term narrative strategy.

New God of War universe project reportedly aligns with earlier live service reports

Although the LinkedIn profile has since been deleted, the claims line up with previous reporting that suggested Bluepoint Games, which was closed last week, had been developing a live service title within the God of War series.

Commenting on the ResetEra thread that shared the screenshots, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier wrote: “I suppose now it's become obvious what I meant by ‘not a new IP but it might feel like one’,” seemingly reinforcing the idea that Sony is aiming for something that feels distinct while remaining connected to God of War’s established world.

The report also surfaces as the franchise continues to expand beyond gaming. Earlier this week, Amazon revealed a first look at Ryan Hurst as Kratos in its upcoming God of War TV series. The image shows Hurst leaning forward as he teaches his son, Atreus, played by Callum Vinson, how to hunt, closely echoing the opening moments of the 2018 reboot.

God of War rumours and leaks suggest Faye as protagonist and possible Egyptian setting

A flurry of speculation and leaks has emerged regarding the next God of War project, with insiders and dataminers hinting at major changes to the franchise’s setting and protagonist.

Rumours have circulated for some time that the series could explore Egyptian mythology.  A few months back, Tom Henderson, from Insider Gaming allegedly claimed in a video that Kratos would wield a Khopesh in the next game.

More recently, dataminers like TheMorse_ reportedly uncovered a hidden cutscene in God of War Ragnarok’s files, hinting that Egypt may be the setting.

As for who might be the protagonist of the game, another well-known leaker more supposed details for the game this week. NateTheHate2 claims on X (formerly Twitter) that the upcoming IP's main character will be Faye, Kratos’ wife.

In his words, “Gameplay is said to differ from the Norse God of War games with more of a focus on action,” and he added the game could be revealed in the first half of 2027, “barring any delay.”

Another leaker, Shpeshal Nick, corroborates NateTheHate2’s claims, noting that while he hasn’t heard specifics about the mythology, the game is reportedly expected to be more action-focused. He described it as: “Probably closer in style to Devil May Cry than the newer God of War games. Sort of. At least how it was described to me.”

Although none of these reports have been confirmed by Sony Santa Monica, the leaks continue to fuel discussion and anticipation over what could be a very different God of War experience. For now, the studio’s next move remains unconfirmed, but the growing trail of reports points towards a broader future for the God of War universe.
